Little Kids Rock To Honor Elvis Costello And Bonnie Raitt

Little Kids Rock, the national nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives by restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in public schools announced the honorees for its annual benefit being held Wednesday, October 18th at PlayStation Theater in New York.

This year’s event will honor Elvis Costello with the Rocker of the Year Award, and Bonnie Raitt with the Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition, Founder and CEO of City Winery, Michael Dorf will be honored for his extensive philanthropic work, including efforts on behalf of expanding music education for underprivileged youth through the annually produced “Music of” tribute concerts.

The Annual Little Kids Rock Benefit, produced by Mark Krantz and Michael Matuza brings together artists and individuals who are passionate about bringing the transformational gift of music to children in public schools across the Us. Prior years’ honorees include Smokey Robinson, Steve Miller, Steven Van Zandt, Lady Gaga, Graham Nash and Joan Jett. »

‘Groundhog Day’: Bill Murray Was Moved to Tears by the Broadway Show of His Iconic Film

Bill Murray revisited one of his most beloved roles Tuesday night at the August Wilson Theater in New York City, where he watched the musical adaptation of “Groundhog Day.” Joining Murray were his brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, who played Buster in the original film, and screenwriter Danny Rubin, who co-wrote the 1993 film as well as the Broadway adaptation.

Widely considered one of the greatest comedies of all time and one of Murray’s most iconic performances, “Groundhog Day” follows pompous weatherman Phil Connors (Andy Karl int he musical) who must relive the same day over and over again in the podunk town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Eddie Vedder, Bill Murray, Steve Martin and Jimmy Kimmel will be among the artists, comedians and actors on hand to pay tribute to David Letterman when the former Late Show host receives the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this October.

Sarah Silverman, Martin Short, John Mulaney and Letterman's Late Show band leader Paul Shaffer will also help celebrate the late-night host at the October 22nd ceremony at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center. The event will be broadcast a month later, November 20th, on PBS.

Bill Murray Dives Into Classical Music With New Stage Show

Bill Murray has found a new passion: classical music. The actor has teamed up with acclaimed German-born cellist Jan Vogler to put together a stage show, titled “New Worlds,” which will premiere in the summer, according to The New York Times. The show will be accompanied by an album, to be released in August.

As is clear from his stint slinging drinks at the opening of his son’s bar in Brooklyn, Bill Murray would do anything to help out his loved ones. For his latest experiment, the beloved actor and comedian recorded a vocal track on a tenaciously upbeat song from Paul Shaffer’s new album, released today with a cute animated music video.

Shaffer is best known to television fans as Dave Letterman’s music director and sidekick on “The Late Show,” though that position is has been held by New Orleans musician Jon Batiste since Stephen Colbert took over. Reverting to their earlier name, Paul Shaffer & The World’s Most Dangerous Band, Shaffer and his fellow “Late Show” musicians are about to tour a new album, which features an eclectic mix of guest vocalists.
