ITV has announced details of this year's Downton Abbey Christmas Day episode.
The two-hour episode will rejoin the Crawley household in the early autumn of 1924 and sees Alun Armstrong (New Tricks, Braveheart) and BAFTA nominee Jane Lapotaire (Blind Justice, Shooting Fish) join the cast.
Armstrong will play Stowell, the butler of Lady Rose's husband Atticus Aldridge and his family, while Lapotaire stars as the much-discussed Princess Irina, the lost wife of Prince Kuragin (played by Rade Sherbedgia).
The episode sees Rose's father-in-law Lord Sinderby rent out Brancaster Castle for grouse shooting season, inviting the Crawley family for a shooting party. It soon becomes apparent that butler Stowell has a serious axe to grind, while a scandalous secret threatens to ruin the holiday for everybody.

There was some reason to celebrate considering A Walk Among the Tombstones my review wasn't just Liam Neeson in another Taken-esque performance a la Non-Stop and Unknown. Then again, the movie itself was a little sloppy so the celebration was a little short-lived. Next up for Neeson, however, is yet another Taken feature, this one the aptly titled Taken 3 (it's the third one don'tcha knowc) and USA Today and Empire have delivered the five first look pictures, though this one is a little different than previous installments. Taken 3 finds Neeson as Bryan Mills and this time he is the prey after being framed for the murder of someone close to him. "I have to go on the run," Neeson told USA Today, "I'll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities. Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. »

The Double, 2013.
Directed by Richard Ayoade.
A clerk in a government agency finds his unenviable life takes a turn for the horrific with the arrival of a new co-worker who is both his exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and seductive with women.
“You’re in my place” says an anonymous man to Simon James, an equally anonymous man who just happens to be the lead in The Double, as he sits on an empty train. Simon gets up and moves, looking back at the man in a mirror only to see a distorted reflection of his own self. These are the first words uttered and actions seen and set that tone for what follows in Richard Ayoade’s sophomore effort as director, and things only get worse for »

The fifth season of "Downton Abbey" won't premiere on PBS until January 4, 2015. That's a long way away and, by that time, many of you will have already watched the full season through illegal means (or legal if you happen to live in England). On Tuesday (July 22) evening, the Television Critics Association is going to get at least a taste of Season 5. Since the show is still in production, creator Julian Fellowes is absent, sending Gareth Neame in his stead. Similarly, much of the cast is shooting Across the Pond, but we've got Laura "Lady Edith" Carmichael, Michelle "Non-Stop" Dockery, Joanne "Anna" Froggatt and Allen "Branson" Leech. Click through and follow along with my live-blog. Don't expect too many spoilers. 7:15 p.m. We're' being strung along by an assortment of other "Masterpiece" productions, none of which is "Downton Abbey." 7:22 p.m. "I feel a-shaking of the ground I stand on, »

We left Downton Abbey on a beach, in the summer of 1923, with two old people maybe falling in love. This week ITV released the teaser trailer for season five, and while it is not exactly groundbreaking — it's mostly just Carson giving Ferris Bueller–esque musings about life — it was enough to get us curious about what exactly is going to happen next year. (They're still doing that "show it three months later in the U.S." thing, sorry.) Here is a quick roundup of everything we know (with speculative spoilers, obviously):Duckface is coming to Downton Abbey! Among the new cast members for season five: Richard E. Grant, a.k.a. Jasper the Coke Fiend from Girls, will play visiting guest Simon Bricker; Rade Sherbedgia will play Kuragin, one of multiple Russian refugees who will presumably bring some sort of revolution plotline to Downton; and Anna Chancellor, forever known as »

"Game of Thrones" coined the catchphrase "winter is coming," but now PBS' "Downton Abbey" wants to remind us that they're also about to experience some change. The period piece, which is entering its fifth season, will be delving further into the 1920s, and we can expect our friends both upstairs and downstairs to notice. Creator Julian Fellowes has already announced that Rade Sherbedgia, Anna Chancellor and Richard E. Grant will be joining the cast; now, in this new, super-vague 20-second clip we hear a voiceover provided by Carson (Jim Butler) announcing the inevitable change arriving at Downton. "Downton Abbey" Season 5 will premiere in the U.K. on ITV this fall. PBS has yet to announce a U.S. air-date. Check out the teaser below. »

Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn is the latest novelist to join the Hogarth Shakespeare project which provides new takes on the works of the Bard. Flynn, who also scripted David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of Gone Girl for the screen, will tackle Hamlet. The Hogarth Shakespeare program is an international publishing initiative from the Penguin Random House imprint. Per the BBC, Flynn said, “Hamlet has long been a fascination of mine: murder, betrayal, revenge, deceit, »

Taken 3 is happening and Liam Neeson will return as still-retired CIA agent Bryan Mills, a man with a certain set of skills, for director Olivier Megaton (Taken 2) and now we know Maggie Grace will return as Mills' daughter Kim. Set to start shooting at the end of the month, the report from Deadline doesn't make mention of a previous story suggesting Forest Whitaker will also play a part, but it also doesn't say he won't so I'm going to assume he's still on board. As far as the plot is concerned, Neeson recently told the Jonathan Ross Show, his return was contingent on one thing, "Only as long as nobody gets taken!" My guess is the siblings of of Rade Serbedzija's character will be coming to the States to hunt down Mills in this one and Whitaker will likely play a partner/friend of Mills that ends up involved. »

The Legend on Hercules is showing in the Us now and will open in UK cinemas on March 28. »
It’s both perfectly fitting and a darkly wry punchline that the last word in Stanley Kubrick’s last film is “fuck,” utilized in its most literal definition. The word is spoken, in both direct and slightly imploring fashion, by Alice Harford (Nicole Kidman) to her husband Bill (Tom Cruise) at the end of the still slightly underappreciated Eyes Wide Shut. Bill’s nocturnal journey into an unfamiliar world of group sex and general deviancy is one of missed opportunities and denied possibilities; he is surrounded by and beckoned into various couplings, and capitalizes on none of them. This weakness of the modern man is a recurrent theme in Kubrick’s filmography, from Paths of Glory to Eyes Wide Shut, released posthumously in the summer of 1999. Kubrick, who died 15 years ago today, was often categorized as a cold and distant filmmaker, always putting his characters at an emotional remove; this »

Let’s get one thing straight before we delve into what is sure to be an exciting tale of casting and wonder; I haven’t watched Downton Abbey despite my sincere intentions to do just that. It’s nothing personal against the British series, I just have a lot on my plate right now and couldn’t fit another series under my already overloaded plate. I’ve already given up a number of shows simply because I couldn’t keep up. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to watch Downton Abbey, but for now let’s just talk about the latest casting additions to the series. I think we can all at least agree they’re exciting even if I don’t know much about the series.
The most auspicious of the three new cast members is Richard E. Grant. The man is a wonderful actor and has been around for quite some time. »
