Suchitra Sen was born on April 6, 1931 in Pabna, Bengal Presidency, British India as Roma Dasgupta. She was an actress, known for Saptapadi (1961), Devdas (1955) and Shap Mochan (1955). She was married to Dibanath Sen. She died on January 17, 2014 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

The most popular actress that Bengali Cinema has ever seen. Her legacy is continued through her daughter Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Raima Sen and Riya Sen.
She and Late Uttam Kumar formed one of the most enduring romantic screen pairs during the golden-era of Bengali cinema, starring in many romantic melodramas together.
Retired from the film industry in 1978 and has since gone into seclusion. As a devotee of the Ramakrishna Mission, she has immersed herself in meditation and prayer and outside of her home, she has confined her visits to Belur Math (the mission's headquarters).
