Married to actress Franziska Walser, daughter of the famous author Martin Walser. They have a son and a daughter.
After studying philosophy, germanistics and classic piano in Dublin, Munich and Vienna, he attended acting lessons at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich.
Made his stage debut as "Ariel" in William Shakespeare's "The Storm" in 1974.
Appeared with his wife Franziska Walser in several movies such as Im Chaos der Gefühle (2002) or an episode of Bukow and König (1971).
Was chosen "Actor of the Year" for the 2015/16 season by "Theater heute" magazine.
