Brand's Movie Breakthrough Was Written For Grant

29 December 2009 2:01 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Russell Brand's breakthrough movie role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was originally intended for Hugh Grant.

The film's writer and star Jason Segel has revealed he dreamed up Grant as his onscreen love rival in the film, but had to rejig the part when Brand blew him away at an audition.

Segel tells 944 magazine, "The part was originally written to be a British author, like a Hugh Grant type.

"Russell walked in to audition, and was so charismatic and good. It was a different choice, but made perfect sense. He captured that guy you totally hate and is dating your ex-girlfriend.

"He was perfect. He's a consummate gentleman and a pleasure to act with... Russell's going to be a huge star." »

Their Nye celebrations included some personal fireworks with a big fight, but LL was quick to deny breakup rumors. The girls headed back to La, where they were pretty much inseparable. They were soon off for a trip to London and lots of bonding time with Samantha's family. Once they were back in La only a few weeks later, the girls got into a fight so »

The third teaser trailer for Universal's Despicable Me has just hit the world wide wonderous web, but it's not the most impressive trailer I've seen. The Notable Films of 2010: Part Four

19 December 2009 11:50 PM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Georgia

Opens: 2010

Cast: Val Kilmer, Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Johnathon Schaech

Director: Renny Harlin

Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.

Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

Shot on-location in Tbilisi, the project also marks a potential return to form for Finnish director Renny Harlin. Given the right material the skilled action director delivered three »

Watch Jason Segel Perform Sarah Marshall's Vampire Rock Opera Live!

17 December 2009 12:06 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

If you.ve seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall then you know that the best thing in, what is easily one of the best movies of the past few years, is Jason Segel.s brilliantly performed, all-puppet vampire rock opera at the end of the film. And now it seems he.s taking the show on the road. Late night television show Craig Fergusen has a thing for puppets and last night he had Segel on to perform, live, his character.s signature puppet number from Sarah Marshall. In the video below you.ll see Segel on stage with a Dracula puppet, performing a hipped up, rocked out version of .Dracula.s Lament.. I still prefer the version used in the movie, you can.t beat those closing moments when Dracula moans .Die! Die! Die.. But there.s something hilariously fun in watching Segel perform it live. Jason Segel Performs “Dracula’s Lament” on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

16 December 2009 6:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Last night was the one thousandth episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, but evidently interns backstage failed to inform the ever-emo Dracula of the celebration. And not helping to curb his Transylmania-prolonged depression was the fact that Ferguson's Wavy the Alligator attempted to chomp his hand-puppet thunder as the ep's defacto host. The upside? Drac was there alongside beanied actor/songwriter Jason Segel to perform "Dracula's Lament," their hit moody ballad that first appeared in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Watch the concert and more, below. If you're wondering, the backing band in the clip above is Los Angeles quintet The Broken West, who are signed to Chapel Hill's Merge Records. Back in September, we reported that Disney and Segal had officially agreed to make The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made, a dream project Segel wrote and will star in. Further details have not been announced, but Segel has »

How I Met Your Mother Readies For Musical 100th Episode

16 December 2009 6:14 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

The How I Met Your Mother cast doesn't shy away from celebrations.

For its 100th episode January 11, the CBS comedy will feature a grand musical number featuring its five stars, 65 dancers and a 50-person orchestra.

"It almost felt like an old-school MGM musical to me. It was a lot of cast and crew grouping together to make it special," says star Neil Patrick Harris.

Harris, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders will perform a 2½-minute song-and-dance piece: "Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit."

The show has provided musical number before - Robin's 'tween videos and Marshall's piano prelude to a slap come to mind - but nothing this elaborate.

Himym producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas wrote the words and music, then recruited composer John Swihart and choreographer Zach Woodlee (Glee).

It Suits Them: How I Met Your Mother turns 100 and pays tribute to Barney's attire.

Case 39

Opens: January 1st 2010

Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley

Director: Christian Alvart

Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.

Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous.
