Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel record their interpretation of "The Joy of Sex" in Sex Tape.

Cameron Diaz (The Counselor) and Jason Segel (The Five Year Engagement) and director Jake Kasdan, who teamed up for the well-liked 2011 movie Bad Teacher, reunite in the undeniably salacious–and inferior–comedy Sex Tape.

Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) are a married couple still very much in love, but ten years and two kids have cooled the passion. To get it back, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one three-hour marathon session. It seems like a great idea until they discover that their most private video has been accidentally uploaded to “the cloud” and gone public. In a panic, they begin a wild night of adventure – tracking down leads, »

Ashton Kutcher leads 'Forbes' list of top-earning TV actors

25 August 2014 9:32 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

It looks like CBS is treating its actors pretty well, cha-ching-wise.

Two and a Half Men’s Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer take the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in Forbes’ annual list of highest-paid male TV actors with a respective $26 million and $19 million in annual earnings between June 2013 and June 2014. This will be the third year in a row that Kutcher, whose tech cred recently landed him a gig as a product engineer with Lenovo, has landed the top spot. Cryer, meanwhile,  is building upon Two and a Half Men’s monies with a huge book advance for an upcoming »

Box Office Report: Guardians Of The Galaxy Rule, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Flops

24 August 2014 10:41 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After two weekends away from the top spot, the space renegades of Guardians of the Galaxy clinched the #1 position at the weekend box office once again. With $17.6 million in its fourth frame – a small 30% drop from last week’s take, outstanding for a Marvel Studios film – the sci-fi adventure is days away from becoming 2014′s highest-grossing film. (Its $251.9 million gross so far is the biggest of the summer session, having passed Transformers: Age of Extinction‘s North American final on Saturday.) With such a good hold, it is likely the film will re-emerge to the top spot over Labor Day weekend and now stands a good chance of surpassing $300 million if strong word-of-mouth continues.

Dropping to second but continuing its robust run were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, bringing in $16.8 million, for a $145.6 million cume. Later this week, the Paramount film will surpass G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, another »

10 Hilarious Actors Who Dared To Bare for the Good of a Joke

Nudity on-screen is no new thing, obviously. Way back in 1934, Tarzan and His Mate engaged in a very lusty, full-on naked swim, which shocked Depression era audiences everywhere. But that’s the thing, nudity in movies is usually about sex. Not so when comedic actors do it. They use their un-yoga’d, un-tanned, non-waxed naked bodies as a tool for being funnier. Take Jason Segel in Finding Sarah Marshall. As his girlfriend dumped him, he stood a thousand percent nude — and limp – in his apartment (for what felt like hours), and we howled. When Frank the Tank (Will Ferrell) went streaking in Old School, his exposed full moon wasn’t about being hot, it was about being hilarious.

From Sarah Silverman going full-frontal in Take This Waltz to Kim Cattrall proving why her Porky’s gym teacher earned the name Lassie (here’s a hint: she howls… »

HFPA’s Nearly $2 Million In Grants Bring Joy, Laughs and Tears

Midway through the Hollywood Foreign Press Associations Grants Banquet, actor and comedian Jason Segel came onstage with Anne Heche to accept on behalf of Outfest and UCLA with a beaming smile and said, “I’m so excited we’re presenting here at the Golden Globes.” After the laughter died down, Heche told him, no they were at an event where the HFPA gave grants to worthy causes, not at the famous awards show. “Ok,” said Segal. “I’ll adjust my speech. As a little boy I always thought with a start in a little town and a lot of luck and

Hollywood Foreign Press Association Donates Millions As Golden Globe Hopefuls Help The Cause

14 August 2014 11:53 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

We are still two weeks away from the official start of the movie awards season with the launch of the Venice, Telluride and Toronto fall festivals  but quite frankly the Hollywood Foreign Press Association got things rolling Thursday night with their annual Grants Banquet. The organization doled out $1.9 million for worthy charitable causes. This year marks the first time the event, held at the Beverly Hilton each August, took place in the evening rather than as a luncheon. Considering that just about every studio awards consultant was present and that several hopefuls from seen and yet unseen movies were enlisted to accept the various grants, you could say the race is off and running. Especially given that the HFPA’s Golden Globes show ranks only behind the Oscars and Grammys in viewership among kudofests.

There Is Way Too Much Hotness Happening at This Hollywood Event

Kerry Washington, Kristen Bell, Channing Tatum, and Robert Pattinson were just some of the stars to step out for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Grants Banquet in La on Thursday evening. The charitable event also brought out younger film favorites like Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning, and Logan Lerman, who stuck together inside while posing for photos. Sofia Vergara, who popped up in a sexy red dress (but without her new boyfriend, Joe Manganiello), was all smiles on the red carpet before she took the stage with HFPA president Theo Kingma. Also on hand for the fun were veteran actor Morgan Freeman, funny guys Jason Segel and Andy Samberg, Obvious Child star Jenny Slate, and Nick Jonas, who hid his bulging muscles under a sleek gray suit. While a suited-up Robert Pattinson made sure to log time with fellow Brit Eddie Redmayne, Scandal star Kerry Washington - who has slowly emerged »

‘Today’ vs. ‘Good Morning America': Morning News Race Heats Up TV’s Fiercest Duel

12 August 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Like most duels, this one starts at dawn.

About 5,000 people, some of them dressed in purple wigs or stars-and-stripes hats, have lined up outside Rumsey Playfield in New York’s Central Park in the wee hours of what will turn out to be a beautiful June morning. The attraction? A chance to watch Jennifer Lopez debut songs from her latest album on the nation’s most-watched morning show, ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Tom Cibrowski, the show’s senior executive producer, shows me a helicopter flying high above. The whirlybird is taking shots of this spectacle, which has a difficulty factor, logistically speaking, of 11. George Stephanopoulos, Amy Robach and other members of the “Gma” on-air team have had to tape segments during ad breaks to gain time to be ferried up to the concert site while the show is being broadcast. No matter. Securing J. Lo, says Cibrowski, represents “one »

‘The Almost Man’ Review: Like Judd Apatow, But From Norway

1 August 2014 12:30 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Henrik (Henrik Rafaelson) likes to play pretend. He likes to yell made-up stories in the grocery store (loudly and often of the shockingly impolite variety) and to engage people in conversations about things that never happened and to jump out from behind things to scare people. Fortunately for Henrik, his girlfriend Tone (Janne Heltberg) likes to play pretend with him. At least, until real life becomes a lot more interesting and full than all those pretend games. The couple is already in a state of upheaval when Martin Lund’s The Almost Man opens, though it seems to be a mostly cheery one (at least, it’s one that includes dancing to Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” in the middle of the day, which seems like a solid signal that things are peppy). Henrik and Tone have recently moved (they’re still unpacking boxes) and Henrik is about to start a new job, but »

Emmys: Quirky Is the New Black

30 July 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

In much the same way that dramas like AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and HBO’s “The Sopranos” made flawed antiheroes easy to root for, a new wave of comedy is putting the oddball front and center. Instead of Jerry Seinfeld playing the straight man to his quirky friends or Michael Bluth watching his family unravel around him, characters like Zooey Deschanel’s Jess on Fox’s “New Girl” and Lena Dunham’s Hannah on HBO’s “Girls” celebrate their eccentricities.

The quirky lead has been a part of TV since “I Love Lucy” took home an Emmy in 1952, according to John Leverence, senior veep of awards at the TV Academy. He cites “The Jack Benny Show,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” and more recently, “Cheers” and “Frasier” as good examples of shows with off-kilter personalities at their core.

However, it’s just been in the past decade or so that »

Sex Tape

Starring: Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel

Directed by Jake Kasdan

Rated R

A couple of weeks ago I went to see Tammy.  I didn’t review Tammy because I couldn't find anything to say beyond this: Tammy is an unfocused mess that forgets it’s a comedy, which is sad because it stars someone who can be extremely funny.   Tammy is the sort of comedy that can be more offensive than something like say A Haunted House or Movie 43.  Those movies, as dumb and insulting as they are, at least try to give you something to laugh at.  Tammy rested on its laurels and expected you to laugh just at the concept alone, which is so incredibly frustrating to sit through.  Where am I going with this?  Well Tammy isn’t the most insulting and offensively bad comedy I have seen this year.  That title belongs to, and »

'Lucy' Knocks Out 'Hercules' at the Weekend Box Office

27 July 2014 5:31 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

More people wanted to watch fully-clothed Scarlett Johansson punching mobsters than a mostly-shirtless Dwayne Johnson drop-kicking giant boars.

According to the action sci-fi thriller Lucy, using more than 10% of your brain's full capacity can allow you to bend the laws of physics and stop time. It also allows Scarlett Johansson to thoroughly trounce Dwayne Johnson in the battle for box-office supremacy.

1. Lucy – $44 million. Who could have guessed that a lot of people would want to watch Scarlett Johansson beat the hell out of a bunch of dudes? That's exactly what happened this weekend. While $44 million isn't record setting, director Luc Besson – creator of The Fifth Element and Leon: The Professional – was able to create a blockbuster epic on a relatively modest $40 million budget.

Love According to 21st Century Movies

27 July 2014 4:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Love is a many-splendored thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love!” so says Ewan McGregor in Baz Luhrmann’s classic romantic tragedy, Moulin Rouge!

It’s a thought that has persisted in cinema for well over a century. Love is what motivates characters; it’s a dream they want to realize, a reality they have to face, the content of their musings in their nightly diary entries.

Decades of cinema have seen the nature of other genres completely overturned. More and more, horrors are gearing towards high-concept supernatural thrillers over human killers; comedies are willing to get raunchier, with a whole lot more swearing; action movies are only too eager to show off brutal set-pieces; and comic book movies and sci-fi films have the effects capable of making the unreal real.

But romance? How much has that changed? And how much do we really want it to? »
