5 Daytime Comedy Shows You Need to DVR

29 May 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The problem with "life" and "responsibilities" and all those other things that require frowny-faced finger quotes is that they keep you from sitting at home all day eating ice cream directly from the carton and watching the best comedy that daytime TV has to offer. It's an issue.

Thankfully, the miraculous ability to DVR shows has visited us from the future, allowing us to balance that whole responsibility mess with the thing that's really most important in our lives: The LOLs. So here's how you can catch them while you're out doing all that dumb stuff like working a "job" and "making a living."

'Archer' (2010 - )

Though "Archer" lives on in nighttime TV, it has become a daytime syndication staple -- and all "Archer" is good "Archer," no matter what time it happens. We can't put it any better than Den of Geek's James Stanfield: "It's like MI5 run by Dunder Mifflin. »

With the release of the Academy Award-winning comedy-drama The Big Short released today in the UK on Blu-ray and DVD, Steve Carell (Anchorman 2, Cafe Society) has been talking about the film, working with Adam McKay and his career in both comedy and drama.

Could you explain the housing crisis in a sentence? No more than five words.

[laughs] In a sentence? What this movie is about is various groups of investors who saw a housing bubble and shorted the market. They essentially bet against the economy. The economy failing was their success and a handful of people saw it and made an awful lot of money because of it.

How much of the financial jargon did you have to learn?

I had to learn all of it. I didn’t learn it phonetically – I actually had to have some sort of understanding. Adam likes to improvise so that definitely was »

5 TV Shows to Watch If You Miss College Life

12 May 2016 12:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Ah, sweet college -- the perfect fusion of freedom and dependence, childhood and adulthood, midterms and hangovers. For many students, it takes escaping high school and heading off to college to find out who they really are and who they really want to be. It's okay to miss it sometimes, or even most of the time.

Fortunately, television will always be here to help you relive your glory days. These college-set series cover the good, the bad, and the hilariously pathetic parts of higher learning. For every randomly selected roommate who became an instant best friend, there was a mind-numbingly boring professor with a two-hour lecture on the origin of language. For every idyllic fall day on campus, there was a boxed macaroni-and-cheese mishap. And for every deep, personal revelation, there was a moment of being too hungover to get out of bed, let along get to class.

Watch: Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen Audition for ‘Knocked Up’

25 March 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | backstage.com | See recent Backstage news »

The chemistry between Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen in the 2007 screwball comedy “Knocked Up” may have been conceived in the audition room. Their quick banter flows naturally, and the tension becomes cringe-worthy as Heigl inquires, “What’s so funny?”  Although Heigl and Rogen are seated throughout the scene, as the setting is inside of a car, their energy only ascends as they argue back and forth. Heigl stands her ground while Rogen remains on the defense—until her exclamation of, “Get out of the car!” They are impeccable partners, which shows throughout Judd Apatow’s film. “Knocked Up” follows Heigl’s character Allison, an up-and-coming journalist who becomes pregnant after a one-night stand with Ben (Rogen). The pair has overpowering differences, yet Allison decides to give him a chance. A complicated partnership ensues. The starry cast also includes Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Leslie Mann, and Kristen Wiig. Watch: New Trailer for 'Papa: Hemingway in Cuba' Starring Giovanni Ribisi And Minka Kelly

24 March 2016 11:19 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Making a movie about a famous writer is a difficult undertaking for many reasons. But James Ponsoldt somehow managed to avoid most of the pitfalls as such with “The End of the Tour,” last year's winsome, loving ode to David Foster Wallace. Similarly, Bennett Miller erected a commendable testament to Truman Capote back in 2005 with his Philip Seymour Hoffman-starring biopic. There's something to said for films like 2010's noble but erratic “Howl,” which starred James Franco as beat poet Allen Ginsberg, as well as the two big-screen Hunter Thompson adaptations, 1980's "Where the Buffalo Roam" and 1998's "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas," both of which indulge in the author’s penchant for overkill.  Read More: James Ponsoldt's 'The End Of The Tour' Starring Jason Segel & Jesse Eisenberg So a movie about Ernest Hemingway is going to spark at least a flash of intrigue in any bibliophile. »

Watch: First Trailer For ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ Brings The Dark Knight Into The World Of Brick Pieces & Imagination

24 March 2016 6:04 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

When “The Lego Movie” was first announced way back when, we all laughed: the audience, the pundits, the analysts, anyone who covers movies for a living. But grossing some $500 million worldwide, turning into a huge hit, and actually turning out to be rather terrific, Warner Bros. and “The Lego Movie” creators had the last laugh. It’s the chief reason why if there’s an Emojis, or Pez movie announced its shortsighted to scoff or mock the idea with derision. “The Lego Movie” proved that an imaginative take on existing brand that seemingly has no narrative is all that matters. More importantly the film’s success launched an incredibly lucrative franchise that currently looks more hopeful than WB’s Dcu plan. And you can thank Phil Lord and Chris Miller for that, as they really dialed into the fundamental themes of Legos and crafted a wonderful story from it. Read »

We pick from over 200 episodes of CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother to select the 10 funniest...

When How I Met Your Mother came to a final close almost two years ago, it’s fair to say opinion was divided on the ultimate resolution to Ted Mosby’s nine year, epic romance. Some viewers felt a tad cheated that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas pulled what was seen as a ‘cop out’ ending.  Personally, I didn’t hate the final episode but that doesn't mean it's going to be on this list either.

How I Met Your Mother amassed a total of 208 episodes and this list is devoted to its 10 finest transmissions. Like any show that runs for so long, there were the expected dips in quality over How I Met Your Mother's life span. When whittling down choices, not a single episode of the »

According to The Wrap, the film “is based on the old pagan ritual the Midnight Game, though it doubles as an American remake of Rob Kennedy’s low-budget 2013 feature of the same name that was made in Ireland.”

The story revolves around a girl and her friends who play the Midnight Game, which brings about the titular Midnight Man, who terrorizes them using their own fears against them.
