2015 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: James Ponsoldt’s The End of the Tour

12 November 2014 9:15 AM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

Three times lucky and fourth time the charm? Depending on who ask, The End of the Tour, the book to screen adaptation of David Lipsky’s “Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself” would be welcomed with both anticipation and trepidation (the Wallace clan haven’t warmed up to the idea). James Ponsoldt, a specialist in the human condition, has a road-tripper that fills out a certain quota: high profile sales items (at this point we have no idea if Sony might be selling or keeping) with attention-getting topliners in Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg. Ponsoldt’s entire feature filmography has screened in Park City, but this is perhaps the least likely candidate to premiere this January as the shooting budget on this road-tripper was perhaps larger than that of Off the Black (2006), Smashed (2012) and The Spectacular Now (2013) combined. Production began at the beginning of ’14 and Sony acquired all »

20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About How I Met Your Mother

4 November 2014 5:38 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

When Craig Thomas and Carter Bays first came up with How I Met Your Mother they couldn’t have imagined it would run for a whopping nine seasons. The idea of father sitting his kids down to tell the story of how he met his wife just doesn’t appear to have the legs to lead to a 208 episode run, and yet, thanks to creative writing and a knock-out cast, that’s exactly what happened.

The recent finale proved rather divisive, but that can’t take away from the overall quality of the series’ run. After all, as much as it was motivated by Ted’s love life, what the show as really about was friendship, seeing the gang mature over a nine-year period; Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) got married and started a family; Robin (Cobie Smulders) realised there was more to life than having a »

“Tricks And Treats”: Watch The Halloween Episode Of 'Freaks And Geeks'

31 October 2014 6:00 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Judd Apatow and Paul Feig‘s “Freaks And Geeks” may have been unceremoniously cancelled after one season, but it still fulfilled one of the staples of network television: the holiday episode. So there's no better day than October 31st to take another look at the series’ Halloween-set entry, "Tricks And Treats." Anchored by strong performances all around, the episode is concerned less with the holiday than what it represents in the eyes of each of the Weir family members and how at odds their competing visions are. Sam (John Francis Daley) wants to hang on to to being a kid for just a bit longer, and ropes in Neil (Samm Levine) and Bill (Martin Starr) to go trick and treating. Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) is still trying to assert her independence while hanging out with Daniel (James Franco), Nick (Jason Segel), and Kim (Busy Philipps). Meanwhile, Jean (Becky Ann Baker, the »

This Week In Home Entertainment: Sex Tape, Snowpiercer And More

21 October 2014 7:19 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Sex Tape Blu-ray Director Jake Kasdan follows up his raunchy but lesson-building movie Bad Teacher with another flick about adults behaving badly. In Sex Tape, a couple decides to spice up their love life by putting together the titular tape; however, things don.t go quite as planned. Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) don't really understand the cloud, leading to the tape getting uploaded for their family and friends to see. Ridiculous shenanigans ensue. Like Bad Teacher, Sex Tape focuses a lot on the rapport between Diaz and Segel, who are both comedy pros. Despite this, they don't really sell well as a married couple with two adorable, likable children, although the addition of kids in the movie allows for some of the same sort of cheeky kid-based jokes that Adam Sandler also likes to employ in his films. Segel and Diaz have great rapport, but they are »

Emma Stone and the Cast of Birdman Know Their Underwear

17 October 2014 2:30 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Emma Stone, Edward Norton, and Zach Galifianakis star in the much buzzed about dark comedy Birdman, which also marks the return of its star Michael Keaton to the big screen. While the film deals with an aging star’s struggle with his career, ego, and personal life as he tries to mount a Broadway show, one of the most memorable scenes in the movie has Keaton running around Times Square with only his tighty whities to support him.

In honor of this cinematic spectacle, we challenged the cast (which also includes Naomi Watts, rising star Andrea Riseborough, and The Office’s Amy Ryan) to identify other actors who dared to bare their briefs on screen, including Tom Cruise, Jason Segel, Rhys Ifans, and Birdman’s own Zach Galifianakis, who believes he’s very skilled at ID-ing his own body. »

Watch: Two Clips And New Pics From ‘Laggies’ With Keira Knightley, Chloe Moretz & Sam Rockwell

17 October 2014 11:02 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The arrested development genre, aka adultolescence, has primarily been the domain of men for many years. David Wain, Vince Vaughn, Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, and most of Apatow’s understudy comedian protégés, have excelled in the field. But the genre apparently isn’t exclusive to guys anymore, which is never a bad thing. One of the first entries in the genre from the ladies is Lynn Shelton’s “Laggies.” American novelist-turned-screenwriter, Andrea Seigel, wrote the screenplay. About lagging behind, hence the term “Laggies,” the movie centers on a drifting, responsibility-averse woman approaching her thirties, who can’t get her shit together. The movie stars Keira Knightley as the laggie in question, and centers on the odd, unexpected relationship between the older woman and a teenager she befriends, played by Chloë Grace Moretz. Of course things get more complicated when the laggie gets mixed up with her friend’s laywer dad (Sam. »
