Karen is the third of four children. She and her siblings, Erica, Peter, and Matthew were born to Morton and Brenda Segal in Manhattan, NY. They moved to Los Angeles, California when she was 7. Being that her mother was a high end fashion model and her father was an executive for MGM, they were no strangers to the creative world of entertainment. As a child, Karen gravitated toward music, playing multiple instruments. Though, it was during her adolescent years that she wrote her first of many screenplays. After studying film and theatre at university, she launched her career as talent in the entertainment industry appearing in such films as The Naked 33 1/3 and My Fellow Americans. Additionally, she succeeded as a radio personality, comedic side-kick and writer/producer for such renowned stations as 104.5 KFOG in San Francisco, 97.1 KLSX in Los Angeles, and Spin's nationally syndicated program. Karen segued into television full-time where she has had a consistent career as a Director, Writer, Finishing Editor and Series Producer for television programs.
She is the daughter of ex Vogue model Brenda Kennedy-Smith and retired P.R. giant Mort Segal. Her brothers are also in the biz; Matt Segal writes for Los Angeles Magazine, and Pete Segal is a film Director. She also goes under the moniker, Kieran Leigh for her musical career.
Karen now resides in Los Angeles, California. She is a Director and Editor of major network television programs.
