No Joe! G.I. Joe: Retaliation pushed back to March 2013

24 May 2012 12:56 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Any G.I. Joe fans who were looking forward to the arrival of the Jon M. Chu-directed sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation next month will be disappointed to learn that Paramount Pictures has made the rather belated decision to push the film's release date back a whole nine months to March 2013. The reason? Why, money of course!

According to a report over at Deadline, Paramount are delaying the movie in order to post-convert the sequel into 3D, no doubt due to the stellar box office performance of Marvel's The Avengers, with an unnamed source quoted as stating: "We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally... Jim Cameron did all of Titanic's 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out."

I guess they've forgotten about the small fact that Titanic was already a billion dollar-grossing »

New G.I. Joe: Retaliation posters arrive online

9 May 2012 1:54 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Here at Flickering Myth, we've got high hopes that the upcoming action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation will go some way to erasing the memory of the Joes' first big-screen outing in Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. With a C.V that includes Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, incoming director Jon M. Chu may not have been the most obvious choice to take over the reins, but he's overseen near-wholesale changes to series, including the addition of A-list acting talent such as Dwayne Johnson (Fast & Furious 5) and Bruce Willis (Die Hard) - both of whom feature prominently in the latest wave of promotional posters from the sequel.

Based upon what we've seen so far, it's obvious that The Rock is set to be the star attraction in Retaliation and the UK poster (released via Empire) only serves to confirm this, »

G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer 2 arrives online

25 April 2012 9:29 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It's rare that a sequel manages to better is predecessor, but that looks like it could be the case this summer when G.I. Joe: Retaliation arrives in cinemas this summer. In fairness, this shouldn't be too difficult a task when said predecessor is Stephen Sommers' disappointing G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but so far director Jon M. Chu's (Step Up 2: The Streets) G.I. Joe: Retaliation looks to be ticking all the right boxes. The first trailer was an unexpected surprise and - following a slew of character posters late last week - Paramount have now released a second theatrical trailer, which made its way online this morning.

Joining returning players Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Channing Tatum (Duke), Arnold Vosloo (Zartan) and Jonathan Pryce (The Us President) in the cast of the sequel are Dwayne Johnson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) as Roadblock, »

Eight character posters for G.I. Joe: Retaliation

22 April 2012 4:41 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With just a couple of months to go before the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Paramount have been slow to put out an official poster, especially considering that the rather exciting first trailer made its way online way back in December. However, the studio has decided to make up for lost time today by releasing eight character banners, featuring the majority of the main cast members from the Jon M. Chu-directed sequel.

Along with star names Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock and Bruce Willis as Colonel Joseph Colton, the new posters include G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra veterans Ray Park, Lee Byung-hun and Channing Tatum as Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Duke, along with series newcomers Elodie Yung (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Jinx and Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) as Lady Jaye. Oh and of course, there's also one Cobra Commander, who is rumoured to be »

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson On Playing Roadblock In G.I. Joe: Retaliation

7 March 2012 12:44 PM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Talking to IGN Movies, Johnson has revealed some new information about Roadblock's role in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, letting slip plenty of interesting details about the character's relationship with Snake Eyes as well as his weaponry and fighting style. While 2009's G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra was a hit at the box office, it failed to strike a chord with fans and critics alike. Hopefully, the wrestler turned actor will be able to reignite the franchise as he did with last year's Fast Five. More G.I. Director Jon Chu talks G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Cobra Commander

17 February 2012 11:02 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra left a lot of moviegoers cold with its release back in 2009, if the trailer for director Jon M. Chu's follow-up, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, is anything to go by, it looks as if fans could be shouting 'Yo Joe!' from the rooftops when the sequel arrives in cinemas this June. With a resume that includes Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Chu may not have seemed the most obvious choice to tackle directing duties on the second installment, but it's quickly becoming clear that he has a much better understanding of the material than his predecessor, and a recent interview with MovieFone just serves to confirm that.

In addition to discussing the differences between the latest movie and The Rise of Cobra - along with the challenges posed in following Sommers' »
