Phase 4 snaps up Super Groovy

6 March 2014 9:56 AM, PST | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Phase 4 Films has acquired North American rights to Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie from SModcast Pictures.

Produced by Jason Mewes, written by Kevin Smith and directed by first time filmmaker Steve Stark, Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie follows the convenience store stoners from Clerks as they win the lottery and transform themselves into costumed avengers.

The parody features the voice talents of Mewes, Eliza Dushku, Tara Strong, Ralph Garman, Ben Gleib, Jennifer Schwalbach, author Neil Gaiman and Stan Lee. Phase 4 will release the film on May 6.

“Most comic book movies have a budget of $100m or more,” said Smith. “This is what a comic book movie looks like at $69,000. Yes, the budget was only $69,000, and yes, that naughty number was insisted upon by our producer, Jason Mewes.”

Larry Greenberg brokered the deal on behalf of Phase 4 Films with Wme Global and Jordan Monsanto on behalf of SModcast Pictures. »

'EuroTrip' 10th Anniversary: Cast reveals 10 things you might not know about the movie

21 February 2014 9:08 AM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

It has been ten years since EuroTrip, riding the raunchy teen comedy revival of the late ’90s and early naughts, burst into theaters and exposed an entire generation of teens to a beach full of dangling male genitalia. And even a decade later, those involved with the cult classic are still proud of it — every sex organ included.

At least, that was the vibe taken away from the audience Wednesday night in Hollywood, where cast members Scott Mechlowicz (“Scotty”), Jacob Pitts (“Cooper”), Michelle Trachtenberg (“Jenny”), Travis Wester (“Jamie”) joined producers Jeff Schaffer, Alec Berg, and David Mandel and several others for a Q&A session. »

Kevin Smith Delays Clerks III for Horror Anthology Comes the Krampus

10 February 2014 2:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Those looking forward to the return of Jay and Silent Bob in Kevin Smith’s anticipated Clerks III will have to wait a little while longer, because Smith has announced that, come April, he’ll be starting production on his second horror film, Comes the Krampus.

Taking to Reddit, the filmmaker revealed that, with Tusk nearing completion, the original plan was for him to gear up to shoot Clerks III. But now he’s had a change of heart. Clerks III will still happen, but it’s Comes the Krampus that has him hooked right now, so much so that he has to make it next. And fortunately for us, he’s making it very soon.

Smith co-wrote the holiday horror anthology with Andy McElfresh. McElfresh will direct the episode, The Krampus vs. The 3rd Grade; long-time collaborator Jason Mewes will helm period episode, Hitler’s Krampus; Smith will direct the Gothic horror piece, »

Kevin Smith announces Krampus anthology horror movie

26 January 2014 11:22 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

For someone contemplating his retirement a year ago, Kevin Smith has certainly found a new wave of inspiration, thanks in no small part to his various SModcast podcasts. Episodes have already inspired the upcoming horror Tusk and the kaiju Jesus feature Helena Handbag, and now Smith has announced that he's working on another Christmas-themed horror anthology entitled Comes the Krampus. Here's what Smith has had to say, via his official blog...

If you listen to the Edumacation podcast, you’ll remember that episode 20 (Part 2 of the Christmas eps) consisted of another dopey conversation that resulted in a screenplay – a’la SModcast and Tusk. I was goofing around with Mr. Edumacation himself, Professor Andy McElfresh, when we accidentally brainstormed a Christmas horror anthology that would eschew the gruesome spin on Santa Claus, and instead embrace the Scandinavian/German Kid-Eating Christmas creature known as the The Krampus. That podcast was released 12/23/13.

Kevin Smith Completes Holiday Horror Anthology Screenplay

25 January 2014 1:00 PM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

I'm a huge fan of horror anthologies, especially when they are good, but even when they are so bad they're good. Kevin Smith has revealed on his blog that he's created a holiday horror anthology film project called Comes the Krampus. He co-wrote the script with Andy McElfresh, and Smith will direct a segment, as will Jason MewesJennifer Schwalbach, and others. The film will shoot over the summer, after Smith finishes Clerks 3. Here's the full announcement from Smith, with all of the details he was willing to reveal,

Kevin Smith Will Direct Comes The Krampus! After Clerks III

24 January 2014 11:45 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Hey everyone – remember that time Kevin Smith said he was retiring after Clerks III? Yeah, looks like that plan is falling apart rather quickly for our passionate filmmaker. First, he announced his pseudo horror thriller Tusk, a film that shows Michael Parks turning Justin Long into a walrus, then came news of Helena Handbasket, another genre piece that might turn into a musical. Now, Smith has surprised fans with another outrageous surprise – he’ll be co-directing Comes The Krampus!, a Christmas themed horror anthology birthed from yet another podcast conversation.

Inspired by one of the more notable classic horror anthologies, Creepshow, Comes The Krampus! will follow a few tales of terror that ignore Santa’s usual Christmas spirit in favor of The Krampus’ kid devouring ways. This is a team SModcast production through and through, with getting everyone involved – wait, why am I telling you this? Let’s take a »

From Kevin Smith Comes the Krampus

24 January 2014 4:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Although Kris Kringle gets all the love, here at Dread Central we're big fans of the Krampus. The character just doesn't get enough love, I tell ya! In any event, Kevin Smith thinks so, too, and he's gearing up to tell the mythical beast's tale like never before.

Explains Smith via his blog: If you listen to the Edumacation podcast, you’ll remember that episode 20 (Part 2 of the Christmas eps) consisted of another dopey conversation that resulted in a screenplay – a’la SModcast and Tusk. It took us less than a month, but Andy and I have finished the screenplay for a flick we’re calling Comes The Krampus! »
