Sharlto Copley joins cast of Oldboy remake

He hasn't been seen since channeling the (still living) spirit of Dwight Schultz as Murdock in A-Team, but  South African actor Sharlto Copley, who made quite an impression as the lead in District 9, will be lighting up the screen again, signing up as the bad guy in Spike Lee's remake of South Korean film Oldboy, the second part in The Vengence Trilogy. The story follows a man who, after 15 years of being trapped in a hotel room against his will, embarks on a bloody quest for revenge. Copley will play Adrian Pryce, a mysterious billionaire out to destroy the life of Joe Douchett (Josh Brolin), beating Colin Firth, Christian Bale, and Clive Owen to the role. I was ready to hate this remake when I first heard of it, but with Lee, Brolin, and now Copley involved, I am now very, very intrigued about this. Filming begins in September. »

Review: Blu-ray Debuts of Six Marvel Animated Films

As you might imagine, studios are combing their libraries to find related items to reissue to tie in with the frenzy surrounding the May 3 opening of The Avengers. Coming Tuesday are two more discs that come closest to the feature film, a sextet of Marvel Animation films in two sets. Making their Blu-ray debut, the first set is Ultimate Avengers Movie Collection which contains the two animated films based on the successful Ultimates comic, along with the bonus film Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. The other Blu-ray set is merely dubbed Marvel Animated Features and contains Planet Hulk, Invincible Iron Man, and Doctor Strange.

Both Ultimate films pretty closely follow the initial Ultimates arcs from Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch although the script is better at aping Millar than the animation is following Hitch’s naturalistic style. A significant change is that Tony Stark’s identity remains a secret and »
