Own’s ‘Haves and Have Nots’ Sets Record With Fall Finale

Own’s ‘Haves and Have Nots’ Sets Record With Fall Finale
Own’s most popular series to date, “The Haves and the Have Nots,” wrapped its first season with a record audience Tuesday night.

Nielsen estimates than an average crowd of 2.6 million watched the Tyler Perry-created soap starring John Schneider and Tika Sumpter — nearly 50% more than the 1.77 million who tuned in for the series premiere in late May.

It has performed especially well for Own in the net’s target women 25-54 demo, rising week to week with each of its last eight episodes.

The series about the powerful Cryer family and the hired help who work in their Savannah, Ga., mansion returns with its second season in January.

Also on cable Tuesday, TNT’s real-life crime series “Cold Justice” premiered to 2.9 million viewers, including nearly 950,000 adults 25-54.

NFL: From Worst To First? Why The Nfc West Might Now Be The Best Division In Football

It was only a few years ago that the Nfc West was considered the worst division in the NFL, and all of pro football for that matter.

It was the laughing stock of the whole league as the Seattle Seahawks won a divisional title with a 7-9 record, becoming the first team ever to make the play-offs with a losing record back in 2010.

Fast forward a couple of years and it is difficult to picture how the Nfc West could be transformed into arguably the best and most interesting division in the NFL, as we approach the start of the 2013 season in a little over a weeks time.

The situation was so dire that a genuine discussion was held about whether the governing body of the league needed to alter – or at the very least look at – the seeding system for the play-offs.

Now as the long off-season prepares to draw to a close,

Tika Sumpter Dishes The Haves and the Have Nots
Is she truly evil, totally bonkers or just misunderstood? Tika Sumpter stirs it up plenty on the Tyler Perry sudser The Haves and the Have Nots (Tuesdays at 9/8c on Own) as Candace Young, the gold-digging hooker — excuse us, gentleman's escort — who is bedding and blackmailing Judge Jim Cryer (John Schneider). The former One Life to Live and Gossip Girl star gave TV Guide Magazine the lowdown on her down-low character.

'Mistresses' episode 3: Put down the blow torch

'Mistresses' episode 3: Put down the blow torch
And while you’re at it, Karen (yep, that’s Yunjin Kim a.k.a. Sun from Lost), just step away from any/everything involving the family of your dead, married, lover/patient! Is anyone going to watch ABC’s Mistresses with me? Awesome.

Stop it, Sun! I understand why it’s taking awhile for Karen (technically the only real “mistress” of the four main characters…so far) to get over ageless handsome-monster John Schneider, whom we saw in some blow torch-enriched flashbacks. “I’m not done with Tom,” Karen confesses to Savannah (Alyssa Milano), who tries to convince her to move on.

Mistresses Review: A Summer Full of Consequences

  • TVfanatic
The pilot for Mistresses will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the HBO series Sex and the City. Four girlfriends traversing the complicated world of relationships, only this time the setting is sunny southern California instead of the clubs and fashions of New York City.

Although both shows have their similarities, Mistresses - a remake of a UK series - feels a little more mature. Perhaps it's because half of this gorgeous foursome starts out having already taken the leap into married life.

The women of Mistresses are dealing with the consequences of infidelity, sometimes their own, sometimes done to them... and those consequences aren't always what you'll expect.

Alyssa Milano plays Savannah (Savi) Davis, the central character of our group. Savi and super-hot husband Harry are trying to make a baby and it's taking it's toll. Nothing ruins a couples sex life quicker than taking temperatures and counting days.

But when

TV Review: ABC’s ‘Mistresses’ Cheats on Good Television

Chicago – At its worst, ABC’s “Mistresses” feels like “Nicholas Sparks: The TV Series” with all the horrendous plotting and melodrama that implies. At its best, it feels like a “Desperate Housewives” knock-off, in which the charisma of its leading ladies get viewers past the writing flaws. It’s mostly the former - a cliched, surface-level soap opera more reminiscent of a Lifetime mini-series than what used to qualify for network TV.

Television Rating: 2.0/5.0

Mistresses” opens with a sex scene and then shots of Alyssa Milano walking in slo-mo to a bar. They know what you’re here for. “Meeting someone?” “Well, I thought I was. But now that you’re here, I’m changing plans.” Ooooh, sexy. Of course, it’s immediately revealed to be a faux sexiness as the couple is revealed to be a married one role-playing and the sex scene turns to a discussion of ovulation.

Review: “Mistresses”

Review: “Mistresses”
Faithfully adapted from a so-so British series, “Mistresses” seems to have landed on U.S. shores in the right place, at the right time. A frothy primetime soap with a definite naughty streak, the program looks well suited to scratch an itch for daytime serial fans ABC abandoned, and its salacious qualities are compatible with the summer timeslot behind “The Bachelorette.” Throw in an especially appealing quartet of female leads, and the Alphabet network — having struggled mightily to fill “Desperate Housewives’” high heels — has a potential utility player for next season, assuming “Mistresses” can keep its saucy come-on fresh.

Although the characters and situations largely mirror its inspiration, this U.S. version wisely seeks a somewhat cheekier and less somber tone, with lots of athletic grappling that could easily have been plucked from a high-end perfume ad. It also steers clear of the absurdity that has characterized something like ABC’s “Revenge,

John Schneider Puts Up His Dukes in Tyler Perry's Own Sitcom The Haves and the Have Nots

John Schneider is about to make J.R. Ewing look like a wimp. The former Smallville and Dukes of Hazzard fave is starring in Tyler Perry's feverish new Own sudser The Haves and the Have Nots as patriarch Jim Cryer, a fantastically wealthy, power-mad judge who intends to become Georgia's next governor. Yet he's happy to risk it all for the company of some high-priced hookers.

"This is the role that may finally get people to stop calling me Bo Duke," says Schneider, who notes he hasn't gone this dark since he played porn mogul Ram Peters on Nip/Tuck. "I'm usually cast as the guy who lives on a dirt road — the one who'll be there to sandbag your house when you need help. That ain't Cryer."

5 Things You Did Not Know About Man of Steel

5 Things You Did Not Know About Man of Steel
The new Man of Steel trailer landed late Tuesday afternoon with a sonic boom that caused a seismic shift in fan anticipation. Though eagerly awaited, many have remained skeptical, and somewhat uneasy, about this so-called 'reboot' from director Zack Snyder. He did, after all, make what some call the most disappointing comic book adaptation of all time with 2009's Watchmen. And Warner Bros., the studio behind Man of Steel, royally whiffed it with their more recent DC Comics adaptation Green Lantern. Not to mention, there's still the mild stench of Superman Returns wafting through the air like a patchouli fart, causing fear that we could be in store for another snooze fest that fails at showing exactly what Kal-El is capable of on planet earth.

Man Of Steel - Trailer 4

This latest look at Man of Steel puts all fears to rest, and even turned this mild mannered superhero movie
