Every now and then, The Asylum, the makers of fine products like the popular “mockbusters” (i.e. moderately budgeted copies, often with similar sounding titles and DVD jacket productions, designed to take advantage of the big-budget studio films coming out at the same time), gets it right. I won’t go so far as to say that Richard Schenkman’s “Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies” is one of those rarities, but it sure doesn’t look anymore absurd than, say, the “Matrix”-heavy trailer for Timur Bekmambetov’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. So, you know, that’s saying something. While the Civil War rages on, President Abraham Lincoln must undertake an even more daunting task – destroying the Confederate Undead. Starring Bill Oberst Jr., Baby Norman and Jason Vail. Look for Honest Abe to slay zombies on May 29, 2012, about a month before Bekmambetov’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. By then, hopefully the »

We’ve just sent two new images from The Asylum’s mockbuster Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies which has just wrapped shooting in Savannah, Georgia under the direction of Richard Schenkman (The Man From Earth, Angel 4) who also penned the screenplay. The images show actor Jason Vail as John Wilkes Booth, aka the man who would kill Lincoln – interestingly, Vail played the same role in the trailer for Seth Grahame Smith’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter novel for the Hatchette BookGroup.

Whilst Seth Grahame-Smith's Honest Abe battles blood-suckers in the Timur Bekmambetov helmed 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' horror studio The Asylum are revving up more Presidential horror action with 'Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies'. Writer and director Richard Schenkman helms the project which will see Bill Oberst Jr. ('Nude Nuns With Big Guns', 'The Devil's In The Desert') plonking on the famous stovepipe hat. Bill describes Schenkman's script as an 'incredibly fun mix of alternate history and horror. This is very much the Lincoln of history...except that he battles the walking dead with a bloody farm implement.' You can check out the poster and new stills from the proudciton featuring Bill and zombie actor Perry Foster below. »

The cast and crew for director Richard Schenkman’s “Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies” can defend the film all they like, but we all know this thing wouldn’t exist were it not for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. It’s just that simple. Personally, I can’t wait to see President Lincoln utterly destroy legions of undead Confederate soldiers using old-school farming equipment, but I can understand why so many people are quick to dismiss the picture as nothing more than yet another cheap knock-off perpetrated by The Asylum. Those of us who are on-board with the flick may find the latest photos to be fairly intriguing, while others will probably feel that a proper rolling of the eyes is the best way to approach them. The choice, as they say, is yours. “Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies” gets down to business on May 22nd, »

Although I’m quick to pick on the company for taking big-budget ideas and systematically crapping out low-budget rip-offs, I actually enjoy the vast majority of the movies The Asylum releases. Director Richard Schenkman’s “Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies” looks to be no different. The film follows the adventures of the bearded president as he battles legions of the Confederate undead, a literary concept that is currently being transformed into a motion picture by a major Hollywood studio. And while I honestly don’t think its glossy counterpart has anything to worry about, I think I’m more curious about this production than “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. You can own a copy of “Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies” when it hits DVD on May 22nd, 2012. The artwork promised in the headline has been carefully embedded below »
