In an exclusive sneak peek at Syfy’s “Van Helsing” Season 2 from San Diego Comic-Con, fans are treated to plenty of bloody vampire action.

The series follows Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), a descendant of the legendary line of vampire hunters. The country has been turned into a wasteland after volcanic ash has left the sky darkened, allowing vampires to rise to power. Van Helsingawakens from a three-year coma to discover that she’s not only immune to the vampires, but also has the ability to make them human again.

The series also stars Jonathan Scarfe as Axel, Christopher Heyerdahl as Sam, Paul Johansson as Dimitri, David Cubbit as John, and Vincent Gale as Flesh.

Van Helsing Renewed for a 13-Episode Second Season by Syfy

Following its premiere on the Syfy channel last month, Van Helsing has already been renewed for a 13-episode second season of bloodsucker slaying.

Press Release (via TheFutonCritic.com): Los Angeles, CA - October 14, 2016 - The new action-horror series, Van Helsing, has been renewed for a second season on Syfy. The hour-long drama premiered Friday, September 23 and will return for 13 all new episodes, with production expected to begin January 2017.

An original Syfy co-production, Van Helsing is produced by Nomadic Pictures, which also serves as the studio. Executive producers are Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, showrunner/writer Neil Labute, Simon Barry ("Continuum"), Evan Tyler (Industry Works), Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell (Echo Lake Entertainment), as well as Daniel March (Dynamic Television). Dynamic Television is also handling the worldwide distribution for the series, excluding first run U.S. television and Canada.

We're getting a cinematic reboot of "Van Helsing" in a few years, but before that SyFy will premiere their take on the heroic vampire slayer from Bram Stoker's "Dracula". Set in the future, Kelly Overton stars as Vanessa Van Helsing who is resurrected into a world overrun by vampires.

Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures says: "Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules. The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival."

Kelly Overton to star in Syfy’s Van Helsing series, supporting cast also announced

Back in November it was reported that Syfy and Neil Labute are teaming up for a female Van Helsing series and now Deadline is reporting that Kelly Overton (The Ring Two, True Blood) has secured the lead role as Vanessa Helsing, a “descendent of the Van Helsing lineage of warriors who now must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires.”

In addition to Overton, the series has also cast Jonathan Scarfe (Hell on Wheels), Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels), Paul Johansson (Mad Men), David Cubitt (Ray Donovan) and Tim Guinee (Homeland) in supporting roles.
