Over the last decade, BBC One and ITV have fought it out on Saturday nights over the autumn and winter period with the two biggest shows on UK television.

BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing and ITV's X Factor were in their 12th and 11th series respectively this year, and the rivalry continues to be fierce. But how did they fare in the ratings each week?

Digital Spy has collected the shows' ratings for each episode as a guide to how they performed in 2014.

Note: The ratings provided are the overnight scores as originally reported by Digital Spy, rather than the consolidated figures. The shows were also not always up against each other in the same timeslot.

Pixie Lott leaves Strictly Come Dancing...but was it the right choice?

Pixie Lott was the 10th celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing on tonight's show (December 7).

The singer and her professional partner Trent Whiddon found themselves in the bottom two alongside Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff, before the judges decided it was time for Lott to exit the competition. But was it the right decision?

The majority of Digital Spy readers agreed with last week's decision to send home actress Sunetra Sarker and Brendan Cole.

77.98% of voters thought that it was the right time for Sarker to leave, while 22.02% believed she deserved to stay another week.

Sir Bruce Forsyth: 'Hosting Strictly Come Dancing made me feel stale'

Sir Bruce Forsyth has spoken about his time hosting Strictly Come Dancing, saying that it made him feel "stale" towards the end of his tenure.

The presenter stepped down as a regular co-host of Strictly earlier this year, after ten years of presenting the primetime BBC One show.

When asked on Alan Carr: Chatty Man if his return to Strictly Come Dancing for the Christmas Special was emotional, he said: "It is emotional, when you've been doing something like that for 10 years.

He added: "I was beginning to maybe feel a little bit stale, and I'm glad I stopped, because I've got this other show now [Bruce Forsyth's Hall of Fame], which I'm loving, so it's good to have a change."

Speaking about his former co-host Tess Daly, Forsyth said: "She is lovely, but of course she's taken over my spot in the show – all the talk about Claudia, Claudia taking my place – she wasn't. »

Simon Webbe and Scott Mills join 'Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour'

Simon Webbe and Scott Mills have joined the 'Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour 2015'.

The pair will appear with their dancing partners Kristina Rihanoff and Joanne Clifton.

They join the likes of Caroline Flack, Mark Wright, Alison Hammond, Frankie Bridge and Thom Evans.

They will embark on an extensive run of live dates in January and February.

New additions to the live tour judging panel have also been announced. 2008 series winners Tom Chambers and Camilla Dallerup will join Craig Revel Horwood for the tour.

Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two presenter Zoe Ball will host.

The 31-date arena tour will kick off at Birmingham's Barclaycard Arena on January 16.

Bottom of the leaderboard after last night's 'Around The World' show, the Casualty actress and her partner found themselves in the dance off against Mark Wright and Karen Hauer.

Appearing in the dance off for the third time this series, Sarker and Cole reprised their Rumba to 'Girl From Ipanema', while Wright and Hauer performed their Salsa to Elvis Presley's 'Viva Las Vegas'.

Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli all elected to keep Wright and Hauer in the competition, which meant Sarker and Cole were sent home. Head Judge Len Goodman agreed with the verdict of his fellow judges.

Describing her time on the show as a "once in a lifetime opportunity", Sarker praised her partner and fellow dancers. »

Appearing in the dance off against Mark Wright and Karen Hauer, all four judges agreed that it was the Casualty actress's time to exit the competition. But did they make the right choice?

Digital Spy readers agreed with last week's outcome, which saw Steve Backshall and Ola Jordan leave the competition.

77.44% agreed that Backshall should have exited the show, while 22.56% felt that another celebrity should have been eliminated instead.

Strictly Come Dancing poll: Caroline Flack tops reader poll

Digital Spy readers believe that Caroline Flack gave the strongest performance in yesterday's (November 29) episode of Strictly Come Dancing.

Flack's Charleston with professional partner Pasha Kovalev earned 54.15% of the vote, and also placed her top of the Strictly leaderboard with 39 points.

This is the second time Flack has topped the reader poll.

After topping last week's poll, Jake Wood came in second with 11.69%. His Argentine Tango with Janette Manrara placed him fifth on the leaderboard with 29 points from the judges.

Frankie Bridge's Jive with Kevin Clifton earned 9.39% of the votes and 36 points from the judges. This places her third in both the poll and leaderboard.

Simon Webbe scored 8.95% of the votes for his Waltz with Kristina Rihanoff. The dance placed him joint-second on the leaderboard with 38 points.

Bollywood comes to Strictly Come Dancing this weekend

Bollywood meets Strictly Come Dancing on the dance competition's Around the World Week this Saturday (November 29).

The show will open with the pros performing a Bollywood extravaganza group routine, supported by dance troupe Bolly Flex.

Choreographer Leena Patel told Digital Spy: "Bringing Bollywood to a platform like Strictly Come Dancing is a huge breakthrough for the Bollywood industry in the UK and I feel honoured to have been able to facilitate this.

"The Strictly professionals have never done any form of Bollywood dance before; it is a challenge for both them and us to make an entertaining package accessible for all audiences.

"They have worked impeccably hard and taken a real interest in the intricacy and expression element of Bollywood dance."

Strictly Come Dancing: Steve Backshall exits the competition

Steve Backshall and professional dance partner Ola Jordan have become the eighth couple to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing.

The pair found themselves in the dance-off alongside Sunetra Sarker and Brendan Cole.

Backshall's Jive with Jordan earned the pair 23 points during last night's show (November 22), while Sarker's Waltz earned 30 points.

After the dance-off, Craig Revel Horwood decided to save Sarker, while Darcey Bussell sided with Backshall.

Bruno Tonioli saved Sarker, and head judge Len Goodman had the deciding vote and saved Sarker.

On leaving the competition Backshall said: "I don't think you can underestimate the achievement to take someone who was quite as bad as I was and get them to week nine!

"I am bursting with pride with what everyone has achieved."

The night also saw two musical performances from Barry Manilow, who sang 'Copacabana' and 'What a Wonderful World'.

Strictly Come Dancing: Jake Wood tops Week 9 reader poll

Digital Spy readers have voted Jake Wood as their favourite Strictly performer in last night's (November 22) show.

The EastEnders star secured 34.64% of votes for his Samba with Janette Manrara. The dance also placed Wood in joint first place on the leaderboard with 38 points.

This is the second time Wood has held first place in the Digital Spy reader poll.

Pixie Lott takes second place in both the poll and Strictly leaderboard. Her Charleston with Trent Whiddon received 16.01% of reader votes and scored 37 points on the night.

Frankie Bridge joined Wood in first place on the leaderboard for her Viennese Waltz with Kevin Clifton, which also placed her third in the DS reader vote with 15.84%.

Caroline Flack's American Smooth with Pasha Kovalev scored 33 points and fourth place on the Strictly leaderboard. It also secured 15.79% of Digital Spy votes, leaving her in fourth position.
