American second feature director, who started working on shorts for Paramount. In 1929, he co-directed the Marx Brothers in their first feature, The Cocoanuts (1929). Except for spells with RKO (1936-38) and Universal (1938-39), Santley spent virtually his entire career working for Poverty Row studios like Republic, Monogram and Mascot, turning out B-musicals and comedies.
