18 May 2012 1:53 AM, PDT | DearCinema.com | See recent DearCinema.com news »

Directors’ Fortnight, the parallel section at the Cannes Film Festival will host four panel discussions. One of them is titled ‘Multiplicities of Indian cinema – Bollywood: the tree obscuring the forest?’

The panelists for the discussion on May 23, 2012 will be Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur), Pierre Salvadori (Srf), Hubert Niogret (productor/film critic), Patrick Frater (journalist), Sunil Doshi (producer) Sudhir Mishra (screenwriter, director).

‘In the West, Indian cinema is little known and is reduced to Bollywood, whereas this kind of film only accounts for a quarter of annual production. A look at an atypical, multi-form and effervescent film industry.’

The other topics for panel discussion are Cinema in Arab Nations today, New adventurousness in French cinema and New names in Latin-American cinema. »

Starring Audrey Tautou, Nathalie Baye and Sami Bouajila.

Trouble brews when Emilie’s disillusioned Mother Maddy thinks that she has discovered who her fictitious Casanova is.

This film is largely owed to a fantastic intelligent script which includes slightly dry, yet extremely sharp humour, and the way the storyline develops as Emilie descends into chaos, adds to the comedic value.

I was however, slightly baffled by the seemingly conscious parallels to the infamous Amelie (2001). The most obvious similarity is that Audrey Tautou is famed for her role as the adorable Amelie. I find »
