Stephen King Week: Robert Rusler Reflects on Sometimes They Come Back

  • DailyDead
Probably one of the more overlooked Stephen King adaptations has got to be Tom McLoughlin’s Sometimes They Come Back which first aired on network TV in 1991. A film that I don’t think I fully appreciated until I got a little older (and much wiser), this revenge tale is centered around a troubled teacher (Tim Matheson) who is haunted by a gang of greasers who killed his brother and were obliterated in the attack as well, some 27 years after the tragedy. A creepy yet poignant exploration of loss and regret, Sometimes They Come Back is truly a film I think only gets better with time.

For Sometimes They Come Back, Matheson was joined onscreen by a talented ensemble featuring Brooke Adams (Invasion of the Body Snatchers ’78), Robert Rusler (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2), Nicholas Sadler (Twister), William Sanderson (Blade Runner), and Bentley Mitchum (Demonic Toys). Daily Dead recently spoke

If you listen to some fans of the series, every movie after the fourth film is not worth watching. With that viewpoint being told so often, I went into this movie with lower expectations. I thought my expectations couldn’t get much lower with “Hellraiser: Bloodline” which was a bit of a mess that even the director removed his name from it. I was pleasantly surprised at how much of an improvement this was! I am aware the term

DVD Review - Sometimes They Come Back (1991)

Sometimes They Come Back, 1991.

Directed by Tom McLoughlin.

Starring Tim Matheson, Brooke Adams, Matt Nolan, Chad Nyerges, Nicholas Sadler, William Sanderson and Robert Rusler.

Synopsis:

A teacher with a troubled past returns to his hometown with his family to start a new beginning. However, his past soon comes back to haunt him as he remembers the traumatic event of his older brother’s death.

Based on a Stephen King short story, Sometimes They Come Back is a classic horror story of a tormented man who is revisited by his past in an all too vivid manner.

The film opens with a voiceover narration, a technique I have my gripes with. However, I have come to accept that it is mostly necessary with literary adaptations, and in the case of Sometimes They Come Back, it actually works quite well in establishing the character of Jim Norman, a father who is returning to his home town,

Lily Allen has again suffered the heartbreak of losing a child during pregnancy.

“It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby,” the British singer’s rep tells People in a statement.

“The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time. No further comment will be made.”

Five New Images from the Coens’ True Grit

USAToday has five new images from the Coen Brothers’ upcoming remake of “True Grit”. There is also an article on the movie’s new star, Hailee Steinfeld, and her interaction with the guy-centric cast. Steinfeld’s bubbly personality contrasts with her character’s dark intensity. “My goal when I was filming was she would never be happy,” she says. “She’s trying to be as tough as she can be. A father would be the one to help her out of it, but she doesn’t have one.” Hiring Bridges’ Rooster Cogburn makes the two become begrudging surrogates. “The entire time, she’s testing to see if he can be like a father,” she says. Starring Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper, Domhnall Gleeson, Hailee Steinfeld, Paul Rae, Elizabeth Marvel, Dakin Matthews, Nicholas Sadler, Ed Corbin, Joe Stevens and directed by the brothers Coen. It’s out with the old and in with the new for Lily Allen. And the singer — who’s expecting her first child with Sam Cooper this winter — couldn’t be happier with her lifestyle changes.

“I’m enjoying procreating,” Allen, 25, tells The Mirror. “I’m not missing smoking, drinking and going out. It’s made me realize a lot about some people I used to hang out with.”

New Trailer for Fair Game

A brand new trailer has been released for Fair Game, the latest movie to star Naomi Watts, Sean Penn, Noah Emmerich, Liraz Charchi and Nicholas Sadler. Yahoo debuted the trailer last night for the movie which is directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity). I had no idea what this movie was about before I watched the trailer and was pleasantly surprised. Other than the deep husky voice over that they’ve shoved on it (why do they think they sound good?!) it looks like a great, intense thriller which I think has potential to be a great movie.
