Disney Junior has announced that David Oyelowo (Selma, Star Wars Rebels) has joined the cast of the animated series The Lion Guard for its second season, where he will lend his voice to the iconic role of Scar, the villainous younger brother to Mufasa. Scar will appear in the flames of a volcano after Simba and Nala’s young son, Kion, unwittingly summons him by using the Roar of the Elders in anger.
An additional slew of celebrity guest stars join the new season including Tony Award-winning actress Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) as Dhahabu, a charismatic golden zebra; Academy and Grammy Award-winning rapper, actor, producer and poet Common (Selma) as Kiburi, an arrogant crocodile; Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Kenge, a ferocious monitor lizard; Aj Mclean (Backstreet Boys) as Kuchimba, an adorable golden mole; Carla Hall (The Chew) as Mpishi, a “foodie” African harrier hawk; Christopher Jackson (Hamilton) as Shujaa, »

It’s our problem-free philosophy, so they say. Pre-production has begun at Disney on their latest and highly anticipated live-action remake of The Lion King, which is being directed by Jon Favreau who made last year’s The Jungle Book remake for the studio.
After the success of Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast (the latter of which has just passed the $1billion at the worldwide box office), many of the studio’s animated classics are getting the remake treatment but the story of the young cub who became King of Pride Rock is perhaps the most eagerly-awaited. And work is cranking up on the film with casting and The Wrap has reported that the comedic duo of Timon and Pumbaa have been found in the form of Seth Rogen (Sausage Party) and Billy Eichner (American Horror Story).
The actors, who co-starred in last year’s Bad Neighbours 2, »

Whenever Disney decides to revisit one of its previous successes, it runs a huge risk. Will audiences connect with the new film the way they did with the old one? Could they even hope to capture a fraction of what they did in that original take? That was the case with this year’s Beauty and the Beast, and while it wasn’t a perfect film, it seems like the House of Mouse is doing a pretty solid job adapting their films for a modern audience. One of the many big films that is on the horizon is Jon Favreau’s The Lion King.
The film already has two characters officially cast. Taking on Simba is Lando Calrissian himself Donald Glover, and returning to play Mufasa is the man himself, James Earl Jones. There are, however, still a ton of iconic actors needing to be cast, many of whom have »

Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner might be Disney’s next farting, Hakuna Matata-quoting warthog and meerkat team, with reports coming today that the two comic actors are in talks to play Pumbaa and Timon in Jon Favreau’s upcoming Lion King remake. The Wrap quotes anonymous sources who say the two are in “final negotiations” for the parts; if so, they’d be taking the place of Ernie Sabella and Nathan Lane, who originated the roles in the 1994 original.
We’ll be honest, though: This feels a little bit too much like “no duh” casting for us to wholeheartedly buy into its veracity. (That is, if someone asked you who should play a high-pitched, excitable meerkat in 2017, Billy Eichner’s the guy you’d skip over for being too obvious.) But it’s not like Favreau hasn’t been pulling out all the stops in the casting for ...

Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King is starting to come together. The casting process for the movie is currently ongoing and it looks like director Jon Favreau has locked down a couple of actors for very key supporting roles. Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog will, assuming everything goes well, be voiced by Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner respectively.
According to The Wrap, both Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are in final negotiations to voice Timon and Pumbaa in The Lion King remake. They will join a voice cast that already includes Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones, who is returning to voice Mufasa, just as he did in the 1994 animated classic. The deals aren't done yet, so anything could happen, but this is Disney we're talking about, so unless something crazy happens, it looks like these will be our new voices for the iconic buddy duo of Timon and Pumba. »
