‘District 13′ Remake ‘Brick Mansions’ Lands A Villain & A Leading Lady

15 May 2013 5:55 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

We recently confirmed the original District 13 (aka Banlieue 13) star David Belle was to join Paul Walker in a big-budget Us remake of Pierre Morel’s 2004 freerunning French actioner. Luc Besson’s frequent collaborator/protege Camille Dalamarre will make his feature film directorial bow coming from a script by Besson, Bibi Naceri and Robert Mark Kamen with the retitled action-thriller Brick Mansions.

Now we have word that former musician-turned-actor/filmmaker RZA, last seen in The Man With The Iron Fists, will portray the ruthless drug lord making lives a misery. Also, stunning French actress Catalina Denis is expected to take the role of Belle’s sister, kidnapped by the kingpin.

Are you excited at the cult parkour project getting an Us overhaul? As ever, let us know your thoughts! Sadly, there is still no role for Cyril Raffaelli.

New 2013 TV Series Breakdown: Fox

14 May 2013 9:52 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the second announced yesterday. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on Fox.

While "The Following" proved a breakout winner, Fox had few success stories last season. So, it is going a bit more ambitious this year with numerous dramas, comedies and one-off "event series".

Several pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen including the family of government-sanctioned assassins drama "Boomerang," the adaptation of Lauren Oliver's book trilogy "Delirium" about a world where love is illegal, the legal interns workplace comedy "To My Assistant," the U.S.S. Lexington-set "The Wild Blue," and "The List" about the hunt for a thief who stole a file containing the secret identities of people in the Witness Security Program,

14 May 2013 8:55 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

So the Parkour elephant in the room is that remaking Luc Besson.s cool French action flick District B13 does not need to be done. But since it.s happening in the form of director Camille Delamarre.s Brick Mansions, all we can hope for is some flashy balls-out action. And stars Paul Walker and David Belle will need to protect their necks from a newly cast co-star. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Wu Tang Clan member RZA will be wearing his acting hat for the EuropaCorp and Relativity Media-produced film. Last year he released his directorial debut The Man With the Iron Fists, which he also wrote, starred in and wrote the music for with Howard Drossin. He also got quite a few laughs for his cameo as Blind Master in G.I. Joe: Retaliation earlier this year. Next up, he.ll be co-starring in Fox.s action »

Paul Walker’s parkour-tastic remake of Luc Besson’s “District 13″ (aka “Banlieue 13″) has added two new faces to its cast, joining Walker and original “District 13″ star David Belle in the film. French-Colombian actress Catalina Denis and all-American rapper RZA have both signed up to enter the mansion, with RZA (previously in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”, and before that, starring/directing/writing/catering “The Man with the Iron Fists”) set to play the film’s villain, while Denis will play the love interest for Belle’s character. Once again written by Besson and his go-to American writer Robert Mark Kamen, “Brick Mansions” will pretty much follow the plot of the original, with Walker playing “an undercover cop who is tasked with going into a tenement named Brick Mansions in order to disarm a neutron bomb possessed by the community’s drug warlord.” RZA will play that drug warlord, while »

RZA Heads For Brick Mansions

14 May 2013 5:02 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

While there's not yet any sign of the extended Man With The Iron Fists franchise that he hoped to ignite last year, the RZA at least looks set to continue busting shots, throwing blocks, swinging swords and throwing hands in other people's movies. We recently saw him as a blind ninja sensei in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and he's now heading for Brick Mansions to cause trouble for Paul Walker. This being the Us remake of District 13, it's about a cop on the trail of a stolen weapon of mass destruction, which leads him into the titular gang-run ghetto. Walker is our lawman, while RZA will be holding up the gangsta end of the deal as the bomb-hoarding warlord. Given the free-running focus of the enterprise, parkour founder David Belle is also reprising his role from the French film and its sequel: the agile rebel who knows the mansions better than anyone. »

Fox 2013-2014 Full Schedule Preview With Trailers And Images

14 May 2013 10:12 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.

Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.

Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

'Gang Related' trailer: Terry O'Quinn, RZA and Ramon Rodriguez star in Fox's intense new drama

14 May 2013 9:53 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Gang Related" doesn't yet have a timeslot on either Fox's fall or midseason schedule, but the network has still released their upfront trailer for the ambitious crime saga.

The series comes from "The Fast and the Furious" writer Chris Morgan and stars Ramon Rodriguez (who played Bosley in the short-lived "Charlie's Angels" reboot). The supporting cast is packed with familiar faces including "Lost" Emmy winner Terry O'Quinn, hip-hop icon RZA, "Fast & Furious" franchise regular Sung Kang, current "Nashville" recurring player Jay Hernandez and character actor Cliff Curtis.

We think "Gang Related" could either be a cooler version of last season's "The Mob Doctor" or a show better suited to cable like "The Chicago Code," but what's your first impression of the trailer?

Fall TV 2013: 'Sleepy Hollow,' 'Almost Human' and Greg Kinnear's 'Rake' lead Fox drama snap judgments

14 May 2013 12:20 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Last season, Fox only picked up two new drama series: the hit thriller "The Following" which was launched midseason, and the instant bomb "The Mob Doctor" which was launched in the fall.

Fox has doubled that amount for the 2013-14 season, but once again they'll only launch one show in the fall. That honor (or curse?) goes to imaginative looking reboot "Sleepy Hollow," while J.J. Abrams' "Almost Human" and Greg Kinnear vehicle "Rake" will be held for midseason and "Gang Related" will be slotted in later.

Here's a rundown of the four new dramas Fox presented to advertisers at its 2013 upfront on May 13 at New York City's Beacon Theater.

"Sleepy Hollow" (Mondays at 9 p.m. Et)

A slick and tantalizing re-imagining of the classic Washington Irving tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, from "Fringe" producers and "Star Trek Into Darkness" co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Tom Mison »
