Christopher Nolan Curates BFI Series on the Influences of ‘Dunkirk’

25 May 2017 5:09 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

“I spent a lot of time reviewing the silent films for crowd scenes –the way extras move, evolve, how the space is staged and how the cameras capture it, the views used,” Nolan said earlier this year when it came to the creation of his WWII epic Dunkirk, referencing films such as IntoleranceSunrise: A Song of Two Humans, and Greed, as well as the films of Robert Bresson.

Throughout the entire month of July, if you’re in the U.K., you are lucky enough to witness a selection of these influences in a program at BFI Southbank. Featuring all screenings in 35mm or 70mm — including a preview of Dunkirk over a week before it hits theaters — there’s classics such as Greed, Sunrise, and The Wages of Fear, as well as Alien, Speed, and even Tony Scott’s final film.

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk To Play At BFI Southbank On July 13

24 May 2017 1:02 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Running from 1-31 July, BFI Southbank are delighted to present a season of films which have inspired director Christopher Nolan’s new feature Dunkirk (2017), released in cinemas across the UK on Friday 21 July.

Christopher Nolan Presents has been personally curated by the award-winning director and will offer audiences unique insight into the films which influenced his hotly anticipated take on one of the key moments of WWII.

The season will include a special preview screening of Dunkirk on Thursday 13 July, which will be presented in 70mm and include an introduction from the director himself.

Christopher Nolan is a passionate advocate for the importance of seeing films projected on film, and as one of the few cinemas in the UK that still shows a vast amount of celluloid film, BFI Southbank will screen all the films in the season on 35mm or 70mm.

Cannes Talk: Vanessa Redgrave on ‘Sea Sorrow’

21 May 2017 4:08 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Vanessa Redgrave’s glorious film career kicked off in Cannes in 1966 when she won the best actress award for “Morgan – A Suitable Case for Treatment,” directed by Karel Reisz. She is at the fest as a director for the first time this year with “Sea Sorrow,” a meditation on the current global refugee crisis; it also marks her directorial debut and plays in the Cannes Special Screenings section. Redgrave, 80, spoke to Variety about what prompted her to get behind the camera.

You’ve been a political activist for many years and campaigned widely for refugee rights, but what drove you to make a film about the current crisis?

I hoped that anyone watching this film could take in the subject and think about refugees in a way that perhaps hadn’t been possible for them before, because of the way the media reports their plight. I don’t mean media »

T.J. Miller shares details on his Boba Fett-obsessed Ready Player One character

17 May 2017 10:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Actor T.J. Miller (DeadpoolSilicon Valley) has recently given some details on his character in the upcoming adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best-selling novel Ready Player One. Chatting with Fandango, the actor reveals that he is playing an original character for the film adaptation:

“I’m not in the book. Some plot points are different, but I’m the only new character. I play i-R0k and basically I am a funny, or at least mildly amusing, Boba Fett. In the Oasis, I am a better player than Aech or Daito or any of those guys. I am sort of unequivocally the best bounty hunter, but I work freelance. While all the Sixers work for Ioi and Sorrento [Ben Mendelsohn], he has to commission me and I get an incredibly high fee to either find people and kill them or make them starve in the game.”

Everything We Know About Harry Styles’ Acting Debut in Dunkirk (But … Does His Character Die?!)

In addition to the hype surrounding the release of Harry Styles‘ solo album, there’s another highly anticipated moment weighing on his fans’ minds: his acting debut in Dunkirk.

The singer is marking his big-screen arrival in Christopher Nolan‘s buzzed-about war movie, but because the director famously keeps plot details under wraps, there isn’t a lot of information out there on Styles’ character. In the two trailers released so far, Styles appears only briefly and it’s not always in the best light as he’s seen swimming for his life in both.

New 'Dunkirk' Trailer Gets More and More Intense By The Second

5 May 2017 3:05 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Christopher Nolan's upcoming Dunkirk is set more than 75 years in the past. More than 300,000 Allied soldiers were surrounded by German forces in Dunkirk, France in late May 1940 and a large-scale evacuation across the English Channel was ordered. The soldiers were bombed and strafed by aircraft as the days passed and they waited anxiously for opportunities to retreat across the sea. That was captured vividly in the first trailer, released last December. The first trailer also laid out the story parameters for the movie, establishing a commanding officer (Kenneth Branagh), a fleeing evacuee (Cillian Murphy), a civilian small-craft pilot (Mark Rylance) and an aircraft pilot (Tom Hardy). Those are the familiar faces, but the story also concerns the soldiers on the beach...

As his career has progressed, the anticipation for a new Christopher Nolan movie has equally grown. And it must be reaching fever pitch now for Dunkirk. The first full trailer has arrived and it does look rather spectacular. Dunkirk Trailer Finally Gives Us An Idea What’s Coming

5 May 2017 12:30 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Few films in recent memory have been as tight-lipped about letting out details of the plot specifics as Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming Dunkirk.

For months, Nolan fans have only had a few images of soldiers ducking for cover to work with, not only leaving potential audiences with little clue as to where exactly the story will go, but also avoiding exposure of the film’s cast.

That’s finally changed.

Not only do we get a look at the general layout of the film about 400,000 soldiers who can’t escape… which has an odd ring to it when you try to piece it together in your mind, but we get to see our stars in action. Most importantly, because you might go several ways with what exactly is going to show up on screen when it comes to the historic account, we see that we are going to spotlight the »
