Best known for playing "Mike" in "The Young Ones" (1982), but he nearly did not get the part. Comic Strip member Peter Richardson was originally cast but had to drop out, and actor Andy de la Tour, who had seen Ryan in the play, "Can't Pay, Won't Pay", put him forward, instead.

Trained at the East 15 Theatre School.
