A movie based on the popular video game series Uncharted has been in development for some time at Sony. Originally David O. Russell was in line to direct with Mark Wahlberg starring as the protagonist Nathan ‘Nate’ Drake. When Russell left the project it appeared that Wahlberg was no longer in the frame, however it has now been revealed that Wahlberg is still a top contender for the part.
According to details stemming from the Sony hack, it has been discovered that Mark Wahlberg and the film’s director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) met in June this year to discuss the project and it supposedly went well. It is said that Sony needs commitment from Wahlberg soon, as filming is set to begin early in 2015. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) was approached to play the role earlier this year, but declined.

While Uncharted is one of those movies we've heard about for years, it seems like Sony is finally getting serious about bringing this video game to the big screen. The studio has set a June 2016 release date, and the adaptation even has a writer and director attached. But it doesn't yet have a leading man. That may be changing soon, as it is rumored that Mark Wahlberg is still being eyed as Nathan 'Nate' Drake.
It's been four years since Mark Wahlberg first confirmed that he was playing Nathan Drake in an Uncharted movie. At the time, he was set to reunite with his I Heart Huckabees and The Fighter director David O. Russell, who was both writing and set to helm this action adventure movie, said to be in the same vein as Indiana Jones. But David O. Russell dropped out in 2011. Mark Wahlberg left the project soon there after. »
Director David O. Russell hosted an industry screening of “Birdman” Thursday night at CAA, then moderated a Q&A with writer-director Alejandro G. Inarritu and star Michael Keaton. The film, which has already scored multiple nominations from the SAG, Golden Globes and Critic’s Choice Awards, is considered a surefire best picture Oscar nominee.
Keaton, recovering from a cold, remained in good spirits, sharing the stage with the two filmmakers. “This is unbelievable that I’m sitting in this company. You pick two guys whose movies I watch and think I have to be in business with these guys, these are two of a few,” he noted. “They are not afraid of saying things and not being coy about it. They show humanity, how you feel when you’re afraid, when you’re bold. It’s refreshing to be around people who don’t just want to play the cute of it. »

When Disney plopped the first new Star Wars film in a decade on the December 18, 2015 weekend, we knew there would be casualties. No studio wants its movie to be in the wake of what’s sure to be a massive box office run, and we now have another causality to Star Wars’ dominance. DreamWorks Animation has moved the Kung Fu Panda 3 release date from its previous holiday debut of December 23, 2015, pushing the animated sequel all the way to March 18, 2016. The new date sets the film opposite the release of Lionsgate’s The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 1, which is the first half of the conclusion to the Divergent franchise. Hit the jump for more, including release date shifts for Pan and Warner Bros.’ horror film Gallows. The release date shift news comes courtesy of Variety. One name you don.t hear associated with Ghostbusters casting rumors has been Jennifer Lawrence. And why would you? The multi-talented actress already has two franchises to her name in The Hunger Games and the X-Men series. When she isn.t lending her powers to a tentpole, she.s contending for Oscars in a David O. Russell drama like American Hustle or Joy. But her name is now in the Ghostbusters conversation, mainly because she put it there. MTV UK spent their past few junket slots asking major movie stars who they.d like to see in Paul Feig.s all-female Ghostbusters movie. They questioned the Interstellar cast, the Exodus: Gods and Kings cast, and the Hunger Games crew. During which, Jennifer Lawrence admitted to meeting with Feig about the movie over dinner. It was a very casual name drop, and it even took her Hunger Games co-stars Liam Hemsworth »

When was the last time a picture had this many public problems? “Jane’s Got A Gun”? Ironically, the star of that film Natalie Portman has passed on co-starring alongside Michael Fassbender in the Steve Jobs biopic that will be directed by Danny Boyle. Aaron Sorkin wrote the script and Seth Rogen will play Steven Wozniak (no word on those Jessica Chastain rumors yet). Sony Pictures was originally going to make the film, but got cold feet and put it in turnaround. Universal rescued the picture and despite its many ups and downs, production is still on track to start in the spring. No reason was given for Portman passing, though other female actresses are currently meeting for the role. Meanwhile, in more positive news for the film, "The Newsroom" star Jeff Daniels is being eyed to play former Apple CEO John Sculley. [Variety/The Wrap] Shooting is right around the corner on »
