Glenn Close to Topline Amazon Zombie Pilot “Sea Oak”

16 June 2017 11:01 AM, PDT | Women and Hollywood | See recent Women and Hollywood news »

Glenn Close in “The Girl with All the Gifts

Looks like Glenn Close has a fondness for stories about the undead. Earlier this year the Emmy winner starred in zombie sci-fi film “The Girl with All the Gifts,” and now comes word that she’ll topline “Sea Oak,” a half-hour Amazon pilot that The Hollywood Reporter describes as “a mix of the zombie drama and family revenge comedy.” Novelist George Saunders penned the project. No word on who will direct.

The show follows Aunt Bernie (Close), “a meek, unmarried woman with no children in working-class Rust Belt City who dies tragically in a home invasion,” THR summarizes. “Compelled by sheer force of dissatisfaction, she comes back from the dead full of rage and determined to get the life she never had. She proceeds to inflict a range of demands on what’s left of her nuclear family, including a quasi-stripper nephew and two feckless nieces, who live in a low-end subsidized hellhole of a housing complex called Sea Oak.”

“Sea Oak” marks the six-time Oscar nominee’s first series regular role since FX/DirecTV’s “Damages.” The legal drama ran for five seasons and concluded in 2012. Close earned two Emmys for her role in the show, and also snagged an Emmy in 1995 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Special for “Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story.”

Other zombie-centric shows currently on air include The CW’s “iZombie,” co-created by Diane Ruggiero, and Netflix’s Drew Barrymore-starrer “The Santa Clarita Diet.”

Close is currently on Broadway reprising a role that won her a Tony, Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard.” Her upcoming projects include a film adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s novel “The Wife.” Written by Jane Anderson (“Olive Kitteridge,” “Mad Men”), the drama sees Close playing a woman best known as the wife of an incredibly successful writer. She’s dedicated years of her life to nurturing her husband’s career, but a revelation causes her to reconsider their relationship and her future. The film is in post-production.

Glenn Close to Topline Amazon Zombie Pilot “Sea Oak” was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story. »

While the first season of “Veronica Mars” was a pretty much perfect season of television, the following two seasons weren’t quite as consistent. iZombie renewed for season 4

Get ready for more brains! The CW renews iZombie for a fourth season...

iZombie Season 4 is a go! The CW has renewed the zombie drama for another season, which is good news for fans of great TV.

See related  Doctor Who: Smile geeky spots and Easter eggs

The show about an undead morgue attendant who assumes the personality of whichever brain she is eating and uses it to solve murders is one of the most consistently delightful shows on television. We would expect nothing less from Rob Thomas, who also created cult favorite Veronica Mars. Thomas runs iZombie along with Diane Ruggiero-Wright.

The renewal comes despite iZombie's modest ratings. The drama has seen a decline in the ratings in its third season. It is currently averaging a 0.3 rating and 905,000 viewers per episode. This represents a more than 30% drop from season 2. Which is... not good.

We'll take it, »

CW Renews ‘The Originals’ and ‘iZombie’ for New Seasons

The CW has renewed “The Originals” and “iZombie” for the 2017-2018 television season, Variety has learned.

The Originals” will head into its fifth season, while “iZombie” will be heading into its fourth season.

Created by Julie Plec, “The Originals” is a spinoff of “The Vampire Diaries,” which premiered in 2013. The flagship “Vampire” series signed off this spring, ending its eight season run, so renewing “Originals” keeps the franchise at the network for at least another season.

“Originals” follows Joseph Morgan’s Klaus Mikaelson and his family in New Orleans. Morgan stars alongside Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel. Plec serves as executive producer with Leslie Morgenstein. The series hails from Bonanza Productions Inc., My So-Called Company, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.

The show has remained relatively stable in its fourth season, which is currently averaging a 0.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 972,000 viewers per episode. That »

‘Gotham,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ And 4 Other Bubble Shows We Desperately Want Saved

It’s that time of year at the broadcast networks, as executives screen new pilots and start plotting their fall schedules. That means shows “on the bubble” – the ones that still haven’t been handed their fate – will also find out soon whether they’ll be back for another season.

We’re not taking any chances. Before the networks unleash their new lineups (set to be announced the week of May 15), IndieWire’s TV team has picked the six series on the chopping block that we’d most advocate trying to save. From comedy to drama, our message is clear: Save These Shows.

iZombie Season 3 Review

4 April 2017 8:59 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

One thing that’s become apparent to me over the past two years is how criminally underrated iZombie is. Sure, the landscape for comic book based TV shows is larger than ever and, while most of them are very impressive, they tend to lean toward the superhero genre. Perhaps that’s why Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright’s loose adaptation has been somewhat overshadowed.

I use the term “loose” because they took a markedly different Vertigo comic and turned it into what’s essentially a police procedural – another genre that isn’t overexposed by any stretch of the imagination – and infused it with elements of horror, drama, comedy and romance. Okay, the procedural aspect is but one cog in the machine, but if we’re to categorize, that’s where it falls, more or less.

But unlike your run of the mill procedural, »
