Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.
It’s tricky to get a solid feel »

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third one announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
An odd year for the once mighty juggernaut which can still pack 'em in. It had surprise success stories with "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge", the latter becoming an unexpected international hit, and several shows have gotten renewals despite more modest numbers. Still, with it battling with NBC for the third and fourth position overall, the network has to introduce ten shows over the course of the season in the hope of getting a few stickers.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include the fashion label dynasty soap "Americana", ABC's update of the 90's "Beauty and the Beast" TV series, the Roland Emmerich-produced thriller "Dark Horse", the »

The upfront presentations and parties continue to roll on in New York City, with ABC stars -- including a svelte Kelly Clarkson and, well, Hayden Panettiere's cleavage -- in the spotlight on Tuesday night! The original "American Idol" winner hit the red carpet with Robin Thicke and John Legend to celebrate their new singing competition series "Duets," which premieres on May 24. Kelly looked fit and fabulous in a curve-hugging floral print dress, sandals and chunky bangs. 22-year-old Hayden was on hand to support her new fall drama "Nashville," in which she plays an up-and-coming country singer who isn't exactly the nicest girl in the world -- and who relies on her cleavage to get her by. Hmm, life imitating art? The former "Heroes" star flaunted her assets in a brazen red vintage Moschino Couture dress and matching lips. Some of the other ABC stars who turned up to celebrate »

Yes, ABC is home to raunchy "cool" comedies like "Happy Endings," "Apartment 23" and the recently exiled "Cougar Town." But the network's biggest hit now (and for the foreseeable future) remains "Modern Family." So it's not surprising that all four of the network's new comedies have something to do with families. Apparently, ABC believes the most promising of these is aliens in the suburbs oddity "The Neighbors" because they've scheduled it right after "Modern Family." But the network was still impressed enough by the pilots for "Malibu Country" (with Reba McEntire, Lily Tomlin and Sara Rue), "The Family Tools" (with Kyle »

ABC is reaching back to its Tgif past this fall by putting a pair of family comedies on Friday nights: Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" and "Malibu Country," a new series with country-music star Reba McEntire in the lead role.
McEntire (or just Reba -- that's how ABC refers to her, anyway) plays a woman whose famous husband (Jeffrey Nordling) has cheated on her, so she takes her kids and her mom (comedy pro Lily Tomlin) to a small house in Malibu -- the only thing she gets in the divorce -- and tries to get her own, long-delayed music career rolling.
"Malibu Country" also stars Sara Rue ("Rules of Engagement," "Less Than Perfect") as Reba's very friendly new neighbor, Juliette Angelo as Reba's daughter and Jai Rodriguez ("Queer Eye for the Straight Guy") as Reba's new agent, who's initially less than sanguine about her career prospects. »

Malibu Country: First Look at ABC's New Reba McEntire Comedy
Funnylady and musician Reba McEntire is returning to television in ABC's new fall comedy, Malibu Country.
McEntire stars as Reba, a married woman who discovers that her country music star husband, Bobby (Jeffrey Nordling), is a giant cheater. Unhappy about putting her own dreams of stardom on the backburner to raise their family, Reba decides to turn her life around after her divorce.
Packing up her mother, Lillie May (Lily Tomlin), and her two kids, she heads for California to start a new chapter in their lives. Their Malibu house is the last remaining asset they have and they soon settle there. But despite her nice new neighbor Kim (Sara Rue) and her son, Sage, California is very different from Nashville and Reba feels like a fish out of water. But can she overcome it all to start her »

ABC is shaking things up for its 2012-2013 schedule.
"Revenge" is heading over to Sunday nights at 9 p.m. Et, the slot the now dead "Desperate Housewives" occupied up until last week. Old standby "Grey's Anatomy" is staying put, as is "Scandal," but they're paired with newcomer "Last Resort."
In a press conference call right after the schedule announcement, ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee said he's not concerned about launching a big action show at 8 p.m. -- especially not "Last Resort," from "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan.
"I have so much faith in Shawn. You get a sense in this job of the showrunners who really know how to drive the train. Don't forget -- we've opened strong action shows at that hour, and certainly there's an audience for it. We believe strongly in the strength of this show. Another role on a newly picked up series, NBC’s drama Infamous, will be recast. Infamous (form. Notorious) is described as an opulent soap in which a female detective (Meagan Good) returns undercover to the wealthy and troubled Lawson family she grew up in — as the maid’s daughter — to solve the murder of the notorious heiress Vivian Lawson who was once her closest friend. The role that is being recast is that of bad boy womanizer Julian Lawson, the handsome brother of the murdered Vivian. Neil Jackson played the part in the pilot. This is the third recasting on a new NBC series. The female lead in comedy Animal Kingdom, played in the pilot by Amy Huberman, is also being recast. Additionally, the network will have to recast a role in the comedy Guys With Kids played in the pilot as a guest star in second position by Sara Rue after her other pilot, »

ABC went on a bit of a pilot pick-up spree today for the 2012-2013 TV season, ordering five new dramas and four new comedies to series.
The five dramas are "Last Resort," "666 Park Avenue," "Nashville," "Zero Hour" and "Red Widow" (formerly "Penoza") -- and that's not counting "Mistresses" starring Alyssa Milano, which was already ordered to series.
On the comedy front, there's "Family Tools," "The Neighbors," "Malibu Country" and "How to Live With Your Parents For the Rest of Your Life" (which we can't even begin to abbreviate, but hope they'll rename so we don't have to).
Here's the scoop on the dramas:
"Last Resort" is an action-adventure drama from "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan. Shot in Hawaii, which subs for the South Pacific, it revolves around the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine that disobeys orders and becomes a target for everyone from Nato to the mob. Andre Braugher, »

ABC capped a very busy Friday evening full of renewals, cancellations and pickups by granting Last Man Standing a Season 2 and granting a series order to Malibu Country, a sitcom fronted by country music vet/sometime TV star Reba McEntire.
Malibu Country revolves around a recent divorcée (played by McEntire) who moves her kids and mom (Lily Tomlin) from Nashville to Malibu, where she tries to reignite her singing career while keeping herself and her family kids from being corrupted by their materialistic new environs.
Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect) also co-stars.

ABC is finishing up the slew of new series orders and renewals. The Reba McEntire-starring comedy Malibu Country was the only pilot left in contention when the network made the bulk of its pickups about an hour ago. I hear the multi-camera sitcom will be paired with another multi-camera comedy fronted by a sitcom star Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing. The deal to renew the freshman comedy is almost done. The pickup of Malibu Country, which co-stars Sara Rue, means that NBC’s new series Guys With Kids will have to recast the role she played as a guest star in the pilot as she was in second position to Malibu Country. For those keeping score, ABC picked up a total of 9 pilots to series today, five dramas and four comedies. The network also will likely look at a couple of other comedy pilots, including the well-received Daddy’s Girls and Ladyfriends, »

After her mother dies, Deb Dorfman (Sara Rue), a timid accountant, has to live with her perpetually grumpy father (Elliot Gould) in the San Fernando Valley. A hopeless romantic, Deb is irreparably enraptured with Jay (Johann Urb), her brother’s war-zone reporter friend.
When Jay needs someone to cat-sit while he’s doing a piece in Afghanistan, Deb jumps at the chance, moving into his flat in downtown Los Angeles where the city, and some of its inhabitants, become a catalyst for her metamorphosis.
Justin and Taegan discuss.
Taegan: Dorfman is really lighthearted, well intentioned and inoffensive. It has a lot of Jewish jokes, which is sometimes excluding. At the screening, people were laughing at jokes and words that completely went over my head. I can see why it’s featured at Tjff.
Justin: I felt pretty lukewarm about it. »
