Drive-In Dust Offs: Bad Dreams (1988)

Cults and their leaders have always equally repulsed, fascinated, and terrified me. The repulsion and terror are obvious markers for any sane person, but some would rather not have it in their lives at all, thank you very much. This is also a lucid and healthy response. But in horror we look for the cathartic in the carnal; and while Bad Dreams (1988) spends a great deal of effort mining a very similar vein as A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), it succeeds in carving out its own modest slice in the late ‘80s landscape.

Released stateside in April by Twentieth Century Fox, Bad Dreams made back its $4 million dollar budget opening weekend, but petered out after it pulled in just over $9 million total. A profit, yes, but not the big numbers they were hoping for based on what they thought was a foolproof Elm Street format. Oh, and

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Cast Recreate Iconic Dream Warriors Photo

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Cast Recreate Iconic Dream Warriors Photo
Some say that A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors is the best of the franchise and for others, it saw a beloved character begin his downfall. So, when a group of the original Dream Warriors cast members reunited at New Jersey's Chiller Theatre Convention, it was kind of a big deal, no matter what your feelings are about the horror classic. The third installment of the iconic NIghtmare on Elm Street franchise came out in February of 1987 and it cemented Freddy Krueger as a pop culture icon. Fans were able to see where Freddy came from and launched the Dream Warriors, who were much more than just cattle being led to slaughter.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of Dream Warriors, Heather Langenkamp (Nancy), Ira Heiden (Will), Penelope Sudrow (Jennifer), Jennifer Rubin (Taryn), and Rodney Eastman (Joey) all attended the Chiller Theatre Convention and took time out to

Mindy Newell: The Fox Is In The White House

  • Comicmix
“Use of the term ‘alt-left’ gained ground quickly online (according to Google Trends charts) when conservative Fox News host Sean Hannity used the term in a debate with BuzzFeed writer Rosie Gray over media coverage of the so-called ‘alt-right’. Searches for the term spiked again directly after Trump used it in his 14 August 2017 press conference. It is unclear if Hannity himself coined the term, but we could not find widespread use of the term on Reddit or 4chan, a web form popular with the

‘alt-right,’ prior to his 22 November 2016 use of it.” – Alex Kasprak & Kim Lacapria,

Snopes.com, August 17, 2017

Alt-left?

Is that a keyboard command?

What it is, is a load of horse manure. Crap. Same as anything else that comes out of the mouthpiece of Il Tweetci The Mad known as Sean Hannity. He is the modern-day version of Joseph Goebbels, head of the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda,

Bill O’Reilly Has Heated Exchange With WaPost Columnist on His ‘Pseudo-News Program’ (Video)
Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin got heated with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly on Monday night over his relationship with Donald Trump, and mocked “The O’Reilly Factor” slogan, “You actually are in the spin zone.” It all started a few weeks ago when Rubin wrote, “Trump should do interviews with real news people, not Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly, in preparation for the debates. He’s otherwise in for a rude awakening when someone asks a real question.” Rubin fired back when called out by O’Reilly. Also Read: Bill O'Reilly's 'Killing Reagan' Co-Author Rips

CNN Not Commenting on Donald Trump’s Latest Debate Threat

CNN Not Commenting on Donald Trump’s Latest Debate Threat
CNN is declining to comment on Donald Trump’s latest threat to not participate in the next Gop presidential debate unless the network agrees to make a hefty payment to a veterans’ charity.

On Monday, Trump dangled the prospect to a rally in Macon, Ga. that he “won’t do the debate unless they pay me $5 million, all of which goes to Wounded Warriors or goes to vets. I would love to do that.”

Trump told the crowd that CNN would likely say he “is a chicken. He’s afraid to debate.”

He added, “Should I do it or not? I don’t know if I want to take the chance.”

Trump has proposed payments tied to the debates before. In September, he sent a letter to CNN president Jeff Zucker, asking him to donate profits from the debate to veterans groups, citing the spike in ratings from his participation.

Bad Dreams: False Start For A Slasher Anomaly

Slashers were all the rage back in the 80s. Whether it was horny teens, camp counselors, institutionalized adolescents, or virginal babysitters, you can guarantee a vengeful assailant was in the near vicinity. It was a tried and true formula that may have lacked originality as the years went by, but ultimately a necessary evil when success was repeatedly struck. John Carpenter’s seminal Halloween ushered in a era of countless stalk-and-slash outings, spawning classics, sequels, and horror hopefuls in between. Despite its’ efforts to stand apart from the herd, Bad Dreams falls into the latter category upon reflection, unintentionally becoming an anomaly of the sub-genre.

How many films can you think of where a cult leader, suicide, and prescription drugs rack up the body count? It’s all for the greater good of being a member of Unity Fields, a communal cult led by the enigmatic Harris (the late and

Josh Soriano’s Guide To Surviving Your First Horror Convention!!

Josh Soriano, man of mystery.

For those who complain that Halloween only comes once a year, here’s your chance to experience it more than once–in fact, as many times as you wish. Recently I attended my first horror convention. I’d previously only been to a Dark Shadows convention in 2004 and even though I had a great time there, it wasn’t exactly as monumental as I’d hoped for. The overall mood felt more like a Jr high dance where the boys stood on one side and the girls on the other. Since it was a beloved show that was on decades ago, it was divided between older folks who were scoffing at the younger and vice versa. I get it. As we grow older, we all go to something we love and complain about how the “younger kids aren’t as die-hard as we are”. But

Review: Bad Dreams and Visiting Hours (Double Feature Blu-ray)

The good ol’ horror-loving folks at Scream! Factory recently gave us a double dose of hospital-themed terror in high definition with their Bad Dreams/Visiting Hours Blu-ray, which features the two cult classics as well as a handful of new bonus features. Par for the course, Scream’s presentation of the material is yet another home run, making it a must-own for fans or even the uninitiated.

First up on the hospital horror double feature is Bad Dreams, which follows a young woman named Cynthia (Jennifer Rubin) who awakens from a 13-year coma the sole survivor of a religious cult that burned together in a suicide pact orchestrated by an enigmatic leader named Harris (Richard Lynch). Harris believed true spiritual unity awaited his followers if they all died together, but of course with Cynthia surviving, that leaves her leader with some unfinished business. Soon, the young woman begins to fear
