Can’t make it to the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival? This year, the New York fest is bringing a dozen live sessions to internet users — for free — via an exclusive pact with Facebook, including the much-anticipated cast reunion of “The Godfather” films.

While Tribeca live-streamed a few panels on Facebook from the 2016 festival and has made other sessions available free online in past years, organizers say the Facebook Live lineup this year is unprecedented in scope.

For the first time in Tribeca’s history, internet users worldwide will be able to watch the festival’s closing-night event on April 29, with a panel discussion about “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II” with director Francis Ford Coppola and actors Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire and Robert De Niro. (“Godfather” star Marlon Brando died in 2004.)

Arnold Schwarzenegger Discusses Long Gestating Twins Sequel

6 April 2017 11:57 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

1988 was a unique year in film history. For every Die Hard and Who Framed Roger Rabbit that debuted, we had odd films like Earth Girls Are Easy, Cocktail, and the comedy Twins, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito who play brothers who were separated at birth. For some reason the movie made over $200 Million Dollars that year (adjusted for inflation.) Keep in mind that Die Hard made only $174 Million Dollars that year (adjusted for inflation.) and you get a sense that all was not right with the world in the latter half of the 1980's.

Yahoo Movies is reporting that there is movement in the long in production sequel to that film which would be called Triplets. Eddie Murphy would star along with Arnold and DeVito playing their other long lost brother. According to Arnold...

TF1 Studio Celebrates One Year as French Film Banner

3 April 2017 9:30 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

TF1 Studio is about to turn one year old. France’s largest commercial network launched the vertically integrated film banner in May as a way to consolidate their disparate acquisition, development and multi-platform distribution channels.

By centralizing its organization, unifying aims and offering partners a single point of contact, TF1 Studio execs say a clear brand and a steady hand will give them a competitive advantage in the country’s ever-difficult film distribution marketplace.

Run by Nathalie Toulza-Madar and Tristan du Laz, and overseen by TF1 Entertainment director Olivier Jacobs — he is also responsible for TF1 Films, a co-financing and production subsidiary that is nonetheless wholly apart — TF1 Studio will partner with local distributors for 12 theatrical releases this year, and up to 15 in the years to come.

In keeping with TF1’s mainstream brand, the slate has a decided focus on crowd-pleasing, wide-appeal features. Upcoming films “Dr. Knock,” a period »

Let Us Now Praise The Mad Genius Of Richard Harland Smith

A few years ago, in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the death of influential film critic Pauline Kael, I wrote the following:

“I think (Kael) did a lot to expose the truth… that directors, writers and actors who often work awfully close to the surface may still have subterranean levels of achievement or purpose or commentary that they themselves may be least qualified to articulate. It’s what’s behind her disdain for Antonioni’s pontificating at the Cannes film festival; it’s what behind the high percentage of uselessness of proliferating DVD commentaries in which we get to hear every dull anecdote, redundant explication of plot development and any other inanity that strikes the director of the latest Jennifer Aniston rom-com to blurt out breathlessly; and it is what’s behind a director like Eli Roth, who tailors the subtext of something like Hostel Part II almost as »

Cue the handmaids.

The Tribeca Film Festival announced its second annual Tribeca TV program on Thursday and it includes a range of world premieres, popular show returns and a slate of independent pilots. One of the most highly anticipated debuts will be Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Tribeca 2017 Lineup: New Fillms From Alex Gibney, Azazel Jacobs and Laurie Simmons Lead the Eclectic Mix

The series has been in the news lately, and not only because it will premiere soon. The dystopian story about a government forcing fertile women to become breeders for their high-ranking officials has struck a nerve among progressive women who are wary of having their health and reproductive rights controlled. Recently, protestors dressed in the handmaids’ red robes and white bonnets made an appearance in the Texas Senate gallery as its members were passing abortion legislation.

Tony Black on Get Out and social commentary in the horror genre…

A romper stomper of a low budget hit, Get Out is the first breakout picture of 2017 and may end up being the biggest. Jordan Peele’s tense tale isn’t just an exercise in horror thriller theatrics, it’s also the first of four ‘social commentary’ horror movies the up and coming director has planned, which one hopes he’ll now get to make. How does ‘social commentary’ fit in the horror genre, however? What conditions need to exist for a movie such as Get Out to happen?

The simple fact is that horror, perhaps one of the most elastic genres in cinema, at its entire foundation is built on the underlying social and economic themes of our society. The best horror movies don’t just make you jump or make you scream, they make you think, examine and, »
