Scarface Remake Gets Writer Paul Attanasio

16 October 2012 10:32 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

We reported that Universal had hired David Ayers to pen the screenplay for their upcoming remake of Scarface almost a year ago. Today they announced that they have brought on Quiz Show's Paul Attanasio to re-write the screenplay.

The original Scarface was directed by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson, which centered on a gangster's journey to attain power and money. The film was remade in 1983 by Brian De Palma, which spawned the iconic character Tony Montana starring Al Pacino.

Plot details are being held under wraps, but the studio is planning on using ideas from both versions of the story. Martin Bregman and Marc Shmuger, who produced the 80's remake, will be producing.

No production schedule has been released for this project.

Scarface comes to theaters in 2014. »

A Certain Young Man, for instance, went through so many changes (including director, cast, and title), that the final film »
