New Release Date for Underworld: Blood Wars

Kate Beckinsale's return as Selene in Underworld: Blood Wars will now take place in the winter rather than the fall.

According to Box Office Mojo, Underworld: Blood Wars will be released by Screen Gems on January 6th, 2017. The film was previously slated to come out on October 14th, 2016.

A Lakeshore Entertainment film, Underworld: Blood Wars stars Beckinsale back in her role as the highly skilled vampire Selene, with Theo James once again playing David and Charles Dance returning as the vampire elder Thomas. Bradley James (Damien, iZombie) also plays a key role in the fifth Underworld film, which is directed by Anna Foerster from a screenplay by Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter, Priest):

Horror Sequel Underworld: Blood Wars Pushed Back To 2017

1 July 2016 7:20 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Kate Beckinsale’s triumphant return as Selene has been postponed, now that Screen Gems has opted to nudge Underworld: Blood Wars back three months and into 2017.

Once on course to scurry into theaters in time for October 14, 2016, the horror sequel (franchise revival?) has now been delayed until January 6, 2017.

Beckinsale is in line to return as the famed Vampire Death Dealer for the franchise’s fifth installment, rubbing shoulders with Divergent breakout Theo James as they navigate the historic battle between vampires and werewolves. Last time we saw the actress take point as the series’ badass lead she had reached the ripe old age of 632. That was Underworld: Awakening in 2012, though Screen Gems will surely be aiming for a more effective sequel in time for 2017.

This time around, it is Anna Foerster who will call the shots from behind the lens. Best known for helming episodes of Criminal Minds and Outlander, »

Underworld 5 Delayed Until Early 2017

30 June 2016 6:58 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in April, Screen Gems released the first teaser poster for Underworld Blood Wars, although it didn't featuring returning star Kate Beckinsale or any of the other cast members. Since the release date had already been set for October 14, most assumed that the first trailer was just around the corner, but the studio still hasn't released any footage as of yet. Today we found out why, with Screen Gems officially pushing the movie from October 14, 2016 to January 6, 2017.

Variety reported on the release date shift, but there was no reason given for why the date was pushed into 2017. In its new date on January 6, 2017, Underworld 5 will be going up against The Weinstein Company's Amityville: The Awakening, starring Bella Thorne and Universal Pictures' Mena, starring Tom Cruise. The first weekend of January is typically quite slow at the box office, but that could change next year, with three high-profile projects hitting theaters. »

Academy Awards Film Series: Scorsese's Spielbergian Biopic Comes Crashing Down Each Time After Take-Off

19 March 2016 9:35 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

'The Aviator' movie with Leonardo DiCaprio as bizarre billionaire Howard Hughes: Bloated biopic. 'The Aviator' movie review: What's not good for the Spruce Goose… Imagine Citizen Kane directed by the Steven Spielberg of The Color Purple, Schindler's List, Amistad, and Saving Private Ryan. The final result would look something like a Barry Levinson film – for instance, the superficial and phony Bugsy. Or, an even more appropriate example, the superficial, phony, and bloated The Aviator. Except, of course, that Levinson is not the man responsible for the 2004 mega-production starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the eccentric, billionaire ladies' man Howard Hughes. Strangely enough, that man is Martin Scorsese, the director of hard-hitting films such as Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Gangs of New York. Scorsese, a fan of Old Hollywood, apparently wanted to have some fun with the reported $110 million budget (approx. $138 million in 2016) made available to him. The director no doubt had a ball while making The Aviator, »

Heathers TV Series in Early Stages of Development

17 March 2016 10:01 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

It’s hard to look at high school cliques the same way after seeing Heathers. The film has found an ever-growing following since its Us release in 1989, and now TV Land is in the early stages of developing an anthology series based on the cult classic:

Press Release: “New York, NY – March 16, 2016 – Dating a murderous psychopath and figuring out what to wear to your best friend’s suicide are typical teen problems for Veronica Sawyer. With a pilot script order for “Heathers,” TV Land is digging into the pitch-black comedy for their first anthology series, based on the cult classic film. Set in the present day, our heroine will be dealing with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers. The script is written by Jason Micallef (“Butter”), and Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will executive produce for Lakeshore Entertainment.

Heathers Series Headed To TV Land… Probably

17 March 2016 7:45 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Once there’s a musical, pretty much everything is fair game, and with that in mind, TV Land has started the ball rolling on a Heathers anthology series.

It’s tricky to imagine what the series might look like, but it apparently it focuses on Veronica coming out the other side of her time with the first Heathers to find herself in the present day with a new group of Heathers. You have to imagine that Veronica has grown into a rather interesting person, one way or another, after the experiences that have now become pop culture canon.

Skeptics might not look too highly on the idea of taking this crazy black comedy for a spin, but the script is coming from Jason Micallef, who wrote the fantastic film Butter.

While the original helped launch the careers of those involved, a new version may come down to finding just the »
