The Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light has added The West Wing actor Bradley Whitford and fellow Emmy-winner Cherry Jones to its cast.

Whitford will play iconic songwriter and music publisher Fred Rose, who co-wrote with Williams such classic tunes as "Kaw-Liga" and "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive." The Hurricanes

Christina Hendricks ("Drive," "Mad Men") is attached to star in Jonathan Lynn's female buddy movie "The Hurricanes". Annalisa D'Innella penned the script and filming begins in February.

The story follows three estranged and very different women who reunite to resurrect their once chart-topping 80s girl band after a rapper samples their music and sends it to the top of the charts. Annalise Davis, Rajita Shah and Jimmy Harry will produce. [Source: Screen]

Amid all the casting uncertainty around the Steve Jobs movie and the news of a Sock Monkey movie in the works, another biopic would like a little of your love and attention today. I Saw The Light, a biographic treatment of famed country star Hank Williams, already has Tom Hiddleston playing the famed country star and it now has Bradley Whitford and Cherry Jones aboard, too, according to Screen Daily.Jones, best known for her Tony-winning work on Broadway and for winning an Emmy as President Taylor in seasons 7 and 8 of 24, will play Hank Williams' mother Lillie. Whitford, who recently reminisced about playing Josh Lyman in Empire's enormous West Wing reunion, takes on Nashville music publisher Fred Rose. Both characters were big characters and big influences on the young star-in-the-making. The latter helped Williams chart his rise from backup vocalist to superstar, and remained a good friend of the singer's. »

I Saw The Light adds cast

Cherry Jones and Bradley Whitford have joined Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen in I Saw The Light, Bron Studios/RatPac Entertainment’s biopic in association with Creative Wealth Media Finance.

The film recounts the story of country & western singer Hank Williams. Marc Abraham directs from his screenplay based on Colin Escott’s biography.

RatPac Entertainment presents I Saw The Light, which is currently in production in Louisiana.

RatPac’s Brett Ratner and Bron Studios’ Aaron L Gilbert produce alongside G Marq Roswell and Abraham. James Packer of RatPac Entertainment and Jason Cloth of Creative Wealth Media Finance are executive producers.

Jones will play William’s mother, Lillie, and Whitford will portray Fred Rose, the Nashville music publisher who helped guide Williams’ career and was a close friend. »
