First Look at Bong Joon-ho's 'Okja' Starring Tilda Swinton, and Giancarlo Esposito

Netflix have provided Lrm with a first look photo from director Bong Joon Ho's monster movie Okja. The photo (Click on it for a larger view) above features Tilda Swinton (Nancy Mirando) and Giancarlo Esposito (Frank Dawson) shooting Okj on location in New York City.

Okja also stars Jake Gyllenhaal (NightcrawlerSouthpaw) and Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years a Slave).

The film was written by Bong and Jon Ronson (Frank) and follows Mija, a young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named 'Okja'. Mija will be played by Seohyun An.

Okja will premiere globally on Netflix in 2017 and will also have a limited day and date theatrical release in the Us. »

Bong Joon-ho’s Okja begins filming; Lily Collins, Steven Yeun and more join cast

Filming is now underway in South Korea on acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho’s (Snowpiercer) new film Okja, with the director adding multiple actors to the Netflix original film, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

Okja is co-written by Bong and Jon Ronson (Frank) and tells the story of “young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named ‘Okja’”.

With filming beginning, Bong has added Lily Collins (Love, Rosie), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Shirley Henderson (Filth), Daniel Henshall (The Babadook), Devon Bostick (The 100), Byun Heebong (The Host), Yoon Je Moon (Mother) and Choi Wooshik (Set Me Free) to the cast. Jake Gyllenhaal (Demolition), Tilda Swinton (A Bigger Splash) and Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) were previously announced

Those who have been eager to see another movie from Bong Joon-Ho after climbing aboard The Rattling Ark in 2013’s Snowpiercer will be happy to hear that his next film, Okja, has begun filming in South Korea with a cast that includes Tilda SwintonJake Gyllenhaal, and The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun.

Yeun, who plays Glenn on AMC’s The Walking Dead, also recently signed on to star in Joe Lynch’s new action horror film, Mayhem. Fans can see Yeun in Okja when it debuts on Netflix in 2017, with a limited theatrical release also planned in the Us. Bong Joon Ho - Snowpiercer

Netflix announced that principal photography began yesterday on its feature film Okja in Seoul, South Korea. From director Bong Joon Ho (Snowpiercer, The Host, Mother), Okja is produced by Plan B, Lewis Pictures and Kate Street Picture Company, and stars Tilda Swinton (Hail Caesar!, Moonrise Kingdom), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Everest) and Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years A Slave) in a bold, global adventure.

Buoyed by the cult success of dystopian actioner Snowpiercer, South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho has been gradually assembling a starry lineup for his next feature, Okja.

After barrelling around an icy wasteland as the monstrous Deputy-Minister Mason, Tilda Swinton will reunite with Joon-Ho for the sci-fi flick, rubbing shoulders with Jake Gyllenhaal as a zoologist, Paul Dano, The 100‘s Devon Bostick, Lily Collins, Byun Heebong, Shirley Henderson and, now, The Walking Dead stalwart Steven Yeun.

Netflix has announced the start of principal photography on "Snowpiercer" director Bong Joon-ho's new feature "Okja" which will shoot in South Korea, Canada and the Us.

Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano star in the film about a young girl (Seohyun An) who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named 'Okja'.

Also onboard are Devon Bostick, Lily Collins, Byun Heebong, Byun Heebong, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon, Choi Wooshik and Steven Yeun.

Bong and Jon Ronson ("Frank") penned the script for the film which will be shot in both English and Korean. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Lewis Taewan Kim, Dooho Choi, Woo-sik Seo and Bong Joon-ho will produce.

A global 2017 Netflix premiere is being targeted, along with a limited day and date theatrical release.
