Vin Diesel staying Fast and Furious with seventh film

30 December 2011 12:07 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Hollywood loves a franchise and this year we've seen studios stretching sagas - and doubling the box office - by separating films into two parts, as happened with the conclusions of Twilight and Harry Potter and as will also be the case with The Hobbit.

Although a fairly unlikely contender for big-screen longevity - because of its seemingly simple road-racing concept and lack of a cherished literary source - The Fast And The Furious series is now extending itself even further.

We knew a sixth film was scheduled to arrive on May 27, 2013, and Vin Diesel says the story has become so big that they have decided to split it into a sixth and seventh instalment.

The 44-year-old actor, who stars as Dominic Toretto in the franchise about men with a passion for super-cars, told The Hollywood Reporter: "With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, »

Disney Building "Avatar" Theme Park

The Walt Disney Co. report they have reached an agreement with Fox Filmed Entertainment and James Cameron' s Lightstorm Entertainment to create 'theme park attractions' based on Cameron's 3D movie "Avatar".

Disney said it plans to build the first " Avatar" theme park in their 'Animal Kingdom' park, located in 'Walt Disney World', Orlando, Florida, at a cost of $400 million.

The agreement between Disney, Fox and Lightstorm, gives Disney exclusive global theme park rights to the "Avatar" franchise,  leaving open the possibility of building additional Avatar" theme parks in other locations.

Released in 2009, the $237 million budgeted science fiction feature "Avatar", the first film in history to theatrically gross more than $2 billion, was written and directed by Cameron, starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver. The "Avatar" film title refers to the genetically engineered Na'vi-human hybrid bodies used by »

Vin Diesel Confirms Fast & Furious 7 Will Shoot Back to Back with Part 6

22 December 2011 6:34 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

How many movies can they possibly squeeze out of the Fast & Furious franchise? After five installments, the series is now more popular and more successful than it has ever been, and the planning is well underway for part 6. However, we've been hearing rumours for a while now about two new installments possibly shooting back-to-back, and this week Vin Diesel confirmed that fact. He did not, however, comment on rumours that Jason Statham might join the cast. Here's what he had to say: "With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space... We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. »

Vin Diesel Ready for 'Fast & Furious' Six… and Seven

21 December 2011 8:57 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

In the true spirit of the franchise, star Vin Diesel has confirmed that a seventh "Fast & Furious" is already in the works—even though shooting the sixth hasn't started yet. (According to the action hero, the story is just "too massive" to be corralled into a single movie.)

Diesel explains that the scripts are being written simultaneously (which is a pretty tall order if you ask us, but we digress). No word yet on whether they will shoot the installments back-to-back or if the cast and crew will get a little break in between. But, let's be honest, this franchise isn't really about taking things slow.

Why the rush? It's really a matter of housekeeping. "With the success of the last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, »

Vin Diesel Confirms Back-To-Back 'Fast Six' And 'Fast Seven'

21 December 2011 8:18 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Plenty of movies are split into two in order to give the story more room to breathe. "The Hobbit." "Twilight: Breaking Dawn." "Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows." Why can't the "Fast and Furious" franchise join all the fun?

Vin Diesel, star of the franchise and one of its producers, announced that upon planning the sixth "Fast and Furious" film, the team realized that they would prefer a seventh movie to wrap up every storyline.

"With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space," he told The Hollywood Reporter. The sixth and seventh movies will be written simultaneously, though he gave no details on a possible production schedule.

Vin Diesel Says Seventh ‘Fast and the Furious’ Being Written Alongside Sixth

20 December 2011 6:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

With Fast Five, Universal started the process of extending the Fast and the Furious franchise beyond movies that are oriented around car-based setpieces and into the realm of action-adventure crime films. The fifth film also featured a gigantic cast, and the idea of locking down all the participants for a few months every two years might not seem like the most feasible idea, no matter what contracts have been signed. So for many months rumors have flown that the sixth and seventh films could be shot back to back [1] in 2012, and that they might even be one big interconnected story [2]. Now Vin Diesel more or less confirms that latter speculation, as he talks about the writing process for the sixth film. Vin Diesel told THR [3], With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to »

Fast & Furious 6 and Fast & Furious 7 Being Written Back-to-Back

20 December 2011 5:30 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Fast & Furious 6, which is currently in pre-production, is going to be split into two movies, reveals Vin Diesel. The star/producer has said that the creative team, which includes director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan, have too much story to contain in one single film.

" With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn't have enough space.

We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, 'You can't fit all that story in one damn movie!'"

Both screenplays will be written back-to-back, and they may be filmed that way as well. It wasn't revealed if »
