7 Essential Debut Films Directed By Female Filmmakers, From ‘Ratcatcher’ to ‘The Virgin Suicides’
When Greta Gerwig’s already-lauded “Lady Bird” hits limited release later this week, the actress-writer-director will join a long line of other female filmmakers who used their directorial debut (this one is Gerwig’s solo directorial debut, just for clarity’s sake) to not only launch their careers, but make a huge mark while doing it. Gerwig’s Saoirse Ronan-starring coming-of-age tale is an instant classic, and one that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who has enjoyed Gerwig’s charming work as a screenwriter in recent years, bolstered by her ear for dialogue and her love of complicated and complex leading ladies.

While Hollywood still lags when it comes to offering up opportunities to its most talented female filmmakers, many of them have overcome the dismal stats to deliver compelling, interesting, and unique first features. In short, they’re good filmmakers who made good movies,

Despite Dollars in Diversity, Hollywood Still Averse to Making Inclusive Films
In Hollywood’s struggle to increase diversity both in front of and behind the camera, 2017 is proof positive that such films can conquer the box office, potentially putting to rest long-held conventions about what kinds of movies are most successful.

Get Out,” the social thriller by first-time filmmaker Jordan Peele, featured a black, unknown lead (Daniel Kaluuya), but nonetheless became the most profitable movie of the year, grossing $253 million worldwide on a $4.5 million production budget. Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” represented a triumph for female directors whom for so long have been shut out of helming big-budget superhero action movies. Adored by critics and audiences alike, the film lassoed $822 million globally, prompted a sequel and became a rare cultural milestone likely to inspire and empower a generation of girls for years to come. And, in a summer that saw a number of sequels stall out, Universal’s multicultural “Fast and Furious” franchise is racing ahead to two more

Paul Walker's Daughter Meadow Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit With Porsche

Paul Walker's Daughter Meadow Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit With Porsche
The late Paul Walker's daughter, Meadow Walker, has settled her wrongful death lawsuit with Porsche.

According to court documents obtained by Et, the case was settled on Oct. 16, though the settlement amount is unknown. The court documents state that Meadow's cases against Porsche “have been resolved in their entirety,” and she further requests the dismissal of these cases.

Walker died on Nov. 30, 2013, after he and his friend, Roger Rodas, crashed in Rodas' 2005 Porsche Carrera Gt. Meadow, 18, sued the auto manufacturer for negligence and wrongful death on Sept. 28, 2015. The lawsuit against the auto manufacturer claimed that the Fast and the Furious star "survived the physical forces of the collision," and that it was ultimately design flaws that caused the late actor to become trapped in the car during an automobile fire.

Porsche fired back in November of that year, stating that the actor was responsible for his own death in court documents obtained by Et. The car company

The New Golden Age of Studio Science-Fiction is Upon Us

The New Golden Age of Studio Science-Fiction is Upon Us
“Blade Runner 2049” is going to struggle to make it past the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, hardly the response Warner Bros. was looking for given the film’s estimated $300 million production and marketing budget. In a way, the odds were always against “2049” given that its predecessor was also a financial disappointment and only went on to become a cult classic with a very specific demographic of moviegoers. “Blade Runner” is no multi-generational favorite a la “Star Wars” or “Jurassic Park.”

But while the sequel is a box office dud, it’s unquestionably a huge step in the right direction for studio filmmaking.

Vin Diesel Plays Peacemaker in the Tyrese Gibson/Dwayne Johnson Feud: ‘It Would Be Unfair to Say It Is Anyone’s Fault’
The next “Fast and Furious” movie won’t hit theaters until 2020, and the reason why depends on who you ask. As the patriarch of this family franchise, Vin Diesel has chosen to play peacemaker.

Tyrese Gibson And Ludacris Turned Down A Fast And Furious Spinoff

It seems that Instagram is the place to settle conflict these days – at least if you’re a cast member of The Fast And The Furious franchise. After Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Michelle Rodriguez all aired their views and differences with passive-aggressive Instagram posts over the past year, Tyrese Gibson has now entered the fray, fuelling speculation about the true cause of a recently announced release delay for Fast And Furious 9.

The sequel to the blockbuster hit The Fate Of The Furious has been delayed by a full year, and rumours have begun to swirl – asking whether it’s due to the development of a spinoff film featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Days ago, Tyrese Gibson responded to Dwayne Johnson’s Instagram post, which pictured him hard at work on project development, with a ‘calling out’ of what he considers to be divisive behaviour. Universal Has Delayed Fast And Furious 9, Pushing Release Back To 2020

Since The Fast And The Furious was released back in 2001, Universal has built the property into one of the biggest film franchises ever made. Two of its instalments – Furious 7 and The Fate Of The Furious – have secured spots in the top 15 highest grossing movies, worldwide, of all-time. Globally, the series as a whole has generated over $5 billion in box office revenue. This is a flagship title for the studio, which makes it all the more curious to hear that the release date for the next instalment – tentatively titled Fast And Furious 9 – has been delayed by a full year.

Despite its success, the franchise has not been without its production problems. Most significantly, the Fast And Furious cast suffered the death of original, returning cast member Paul Walker during principal photography of Furious 7. Much time was spent considering how to move forward with the series after the loss of such a central figure.
