Michael Mann Retrospective - Miami Vice (2006)

Miami Vice, 2006.

Directed by Michael Mann.

Starring Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Li Gong, Naomie Harris, Ciarán Hinds, Justin Theroux, Barry Shabaka Henley, Luis Tosar, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Eddie Marsan and John Ortiz.

Synopsis:

Two Miami Vice detectives go undercover to bring down drug traffickers.

“When I first read Tony Yerkovich’s screenplay for the original Miami Vice [NBC, 1984 to 1989] pilot, my first instinct was to make this as a feature film,” revealed moviemaker Michael Mann who decided to revisit the idea. “It's all Jamie's [Foxx] fault because he talked me into this, starting in 2002, at [Mohammad] Ali's birthday party.” Mann was creatively inspired by the Emmy-winning television show. “If I took you through the first two years' episodes, which I consider to be the real core of Miami Vice, these are exactly the kind of stories that were being told. They were poignant, [and] emotional; they weren't happy endings.” What was really enticing about the project »

*****

The U.S. Prime Suspect has one terrible, undeniable problem: its title. Even though the U.S. Prime Suspect is closely based on the U.K. Prime Suspect, the title just doesn’t work. The reason for this has everything to do with the structural difference between U.S. broadcast network prime-time and U.K. broadcast network prime-time.

The original Prime Suspect is one of the best TV shows of all time. In bringing us the adventures of Dci Jane Tennison, Lynda La Plante »

The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Thursday

6 October 2011 6:38 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

On TV this Thursday: Leslie Knope lets loose with a page-turner, Grey’s Anatomy delivers an aggressive injection of testosterone, and The League resumes play. The people have spoken and we’ve gone daily* with the TVLine-Up, so here are our picks for the day.

*Note: With a new era comes new parameters. In its daily incarnation, the TVLine-Up will of course flag big premieres/finales as well as cite “noteworthy” regular episodes (i.e. those that we know or have heard to be standouts, boast interesting guest stars, or possess some other intangible “fun” factor). And during these first weeks of the fall, »

Susan Lucci has hinted that she is in talks to appear in Desperate Housewives. The All My Children star was first linked to a role in the show in April, although the rumours were later denied. Elizabeth Rodriguez is a Prime Suspect for NBC

16 June 2011 4:00 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Elizabeth Rodriguez has wowed the daytime crowd with All My Children and the stage crowd on Broadway, but now Deadline brings word that she’s returning for the prime time audience in Prime Suspect.

Rodriguez, who’s been nominated for a 2011 Tony Award and the 2011 Outer Critics Circle Award for her starring role in The Motherf**ker with the Hat, will be showing up in NBC’s new drama series, Prime Suspect, which revolves around Jane Timoney (Maria Bello) trying to do her job as a detective in a male-dominated precinct in New York City. Rodriguez plays another female detective on the force so I see the two possibly sharing a lot of screen time together as the two ladies form a united front against the testosterone gang.

The new series, based on a British TV series with the same name, also stars Brian F. O’Byrne and Aidan Quinn. »
