After last week’s brilliant new releases in the home entertainment market, headed up by Steve McQueen’s Shame and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (I bought them both on Blu-ray, the latter in HMV’s exclusive steelbook special edition), this week sees another great slew of titles for us to add to our collections.
As ever, we have not just the brand new films and TV shows making their way to shelves for the first time, but also single-disc Blu-ray editions (which we’re increasingly seeing within a few months of the Double / Triple Play versions), and a host of films getting the HD treatment, released on Blu-ray for the first time, with Disney releasing a handful of old titles in the visually beautiful format.
Stay tuned for next week (and be sure to get your pre-orders in early), which will see Chornicle, Coriolanus, Martha Marcy May Marlene, »

Another week, another Monday. So it’s time for the rundown of DVDs and Blu-ray’s hitting stores online and offline this week. It’s another packed week, with plenty of movies waiting to take you money, so let us breakdown the new releases and highlight what you should – and shouldn’t – be buying from today, May 21st 2012.
Pick Of The Week
Psych: Season 5 (DVD)
He’s got an eye for details and a knack for saying the wrong thing… Fortunately for impulsive fake “psychic detective” Shawn Spencer (James Roday), his best friend, Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill), is there to make sense of it all in 16 peculiar and witty Season Five episodes of Psych. Based out of their quirky Pi office, the unlikely duo are “psyched” this season to consult on some of the most bizarre police cases to-date: from infiltrating a ring of street thugs to ghost »

In its first upfront event during the traditional broadcast upfront week, USA Network kept it casual, with a party vibe — cocktails on the way in, a music performance to start, a whole music set to close the presentation, which was followed by more drinks, and no executives taking the stage. Instead, the network kept its tradition of having the stars of its series present the new shows and talk up its ratings performance. Related: USA Nears Deals For 2 Comedy Pilots, Picks Up Reality Pilot, Unveils Development Slate The network also made some news, with WWE star John Cena announcing that, starting with WWE Monday Night Raw‘s 1000th episode on July 23, the show will permanently expand to three hours. The USA actors kept the proceedings mostly entertaining, with some deviating from the script. (Bruce Campbell!) Update: Liam James will play the lead character in The Way, Way Back about a teen boy trying to figure himself out during summer vacation with his unattentive mother (Toni Collette) and cheating stepfather (Steve Carrell). James has made a career so far out of playing the sons and younger versions of famous actors: He's the "son" of John Cusack in 2012, Mirielle Enos in "The Killing" and Dennis Quaid in The Horsemen. James is also the younger version of James Roday in "Psych" and Vince Vaughn in Fred Claus.
April 19, 2012 - Annasophia Robb (Race to Witch Mountain), Steve Carrell (Dinner for Schmucks), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense), Allison Janney (The Help), Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2) will star in The Way, Way Back. It's about a teen boy on summer vacation with his distracted mother (Collette) and vice-indulging stepfather (Carrell). Walsh Co. is producing the indie.

Psych-os, now that’s a season finale!
[Warning: Don't read on if you haven't seen the season finale of Psych.]
One of many things I love about Psych is how after a fun season of excellent Gus (Dule Hill) and Shawn (James Roday) tomfoolery, the show can still pull back the veil of silly and have some really earnest moments. They did that in a major way during the season finale, “SantaBarbaratown,” which saw Shawn and his dad (Corbin Bernsen) tried in a major way by a case-of-the-week. Over the years, I’ve loved watching Shawn and his dad’s relationship grow, and I loved that despite the challenges in the episode, »

If you know what pineappling is, you might be a Psych-o. If you have ever made up an elaborate, yet hilarious nickname for your trusty best friend, you might be a Psych-o. If you squeal like a young school girl over a Labradoodle, you might be a Psych-o. If you know every single word to the Psych theme song you might be a Psych-o. For years now, fans who adore the show Psych -- known as Psych-o's -- have known what an exceptional and special program the USA Network show is. If you have never partaken in an episode, you're seriously doing yourself an injustice because it is one of the best and funniest programs on television today. Just one episode will hook you in because of the humor, camaraderie, chemistry, and showmanship that Psych continues to exude. Every episode is chock full of pop »

You probably know that I’m a huge fan of Psych, and while the last few episodes have been really solid, there hasn’t seemed to be as much chatter about the spring return. So, I’m giving you a preview of the next episode, and reminding you to tune in.
The episode is “True Grits,” and it looks like another winner.
Something’s cookin’ in Santa Barbara. An impassioned chef, played by guest star Anthony Anderson, seeks restitution after his robbery conviction is overturned by The Innocence Project, and he’d like Shawn and Gus to help find the actual culprit.

Plum Cake, missing earlobes, crazed fans and even crazier ex-lovers. Indeed, Psych delivered another quirky and quotable episode with "Autopsy Turvy."
This week's installment was a fusion of creative energies both in front of and behind the camera. Andy Berman, who co-wrote this week's twists and turns with James Roday, made an appearance as a Thai waiter with a distinct and "unoffensive" accent. Anyone notice that Andy's been on the show twice now, each time as a different person?!
Who could forget to mention the epic-ness taking place behind the camera as Jennifer Lynch (daughter of Twin Peaks creator David Lynch) made her Psych debut. It had several hallmarks reminiscent of her father's rather sinister and compelling style, the 1930's dance hall, the crazy murder fan and even crazier mortician who wanted to take Woody's job. This episode definitely had me thinking of Twin Peaks.
Of course, the guest stars »

From television executives to exasperated grandfathers to silly school teachers, the TV Fanatic staff answers a very simply question in the following Round Table discussion: Who Is The Funniest Character On Television?
Read on for our responses and then sound off with your own...
Eric Hochberger: Like the man himself, this answer is simple: Ron Swanson.
Matt Richenthal: The answer is clearly Swanson, but I'll give it to Jack Donaghy just to be different. Referring to Liz Lemon's shoes as "bi-curious" on season one of 30 Rock was enough to earn him a permanent spot in the pantheon of hilarious TV character.
Carissa Pavlica: Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family. And he's even funny on Twitter as a real life person. Bonus!
Chandel Charles: James Roday and Dule Hill as Shawn and Gus on Psych. You don't understand how funny they are as individuals until you see them together! »

The big showdown from the Mar. 12 Raw, live in Cleveland, Ohio is a musical battle between John Cena and the Rock.
We're two weeks away from "WrestleMania 28" on Sun., April 1. Live from the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, headliners Cena -- the face of World Wrestling Entertainment -- will be squaring off against wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at the Super Bowl of wrestling.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, onto this week's showdown:
Opening Segment: John Cena's Battle Rap
Watch On WWE Fan Nation
Cena comes out in full "Doctor of Thuganomics" gear, complete with Cavaliers jersey. Despite the local sports team pandering and wrestling fans' love of nostalgia, Cena is met with a divisive crowd. He lays down some pretty vulgar rhymes, including wanting to give Rock a Cleveland steamer. Cleveland, uh, appreciates(?) the shout-out.

Paranormal activity, a new condo, quirky neighbors, Lassiter asking Shawn and Gus for help, the return of Shatner.
Indeed, our boys were in for a crazy time this week on Psych in the James Roday-directed episode, "Heeeeere's Lassie!"
Nothing brings me more joy than to see Lassiter at his most eccentric, or, in this week's case, his most insane.
As much fun as it is for Tim Omundson to play crazy, it has to be more fun to watch him, especially since he is so darn good at it!
In a lot of ways it was kind of sad, knowing that all Lassiter wanted was to get a place for himself and Marlowe, then again, we wouldn't have gotten to witness Carlton's sword wielding rampage on Gus. Nothing could be more entertaining than listening to Gus scream like a girl as Lassiter attempted to dismantle that apparently oak door slash by slash. »

Chicago – A consistent performer like “Psych” nearly defies the very concept of TV reviews. Want a full review here? “Have you seen “Psych” before? Did you like it? Then you’ll like the mid-season premiere.” That’s about it. With nearly six seasons done, it’s hard to believe that anyone hasn’t decided yet whether or not they like one of basic cable’s biggest hits of the last decade. And, as my grandpa says, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
TV Rating: 3.5/5.0
So why bother? Well, I think all people look for when a show like “Psych” returns is that dreaded phrase — “jumping the shark.” Is this it? The time when my favorite show turns into junk? The time when it goes from early “Entourage” to late “Entourage”? Here’s another quick review — nope. If you liked “Psych” before, I find it Impossible to believe »

During the Wednesday night premiere, fans can chat with star James Roday and "Psych" creator Steve Franks during the Psych Character Chatter. Fans can also follow along on Twitter using #PsychLeapDay.
