- Channel swimmer, who was the first Briton to finish the first Daily Mail International Channel Race in August 1950. Rockett was a well-known water polo player whom had played for his county on several occasions. He decided to enter the Daily Mail Race as a new challenge.
- Rockett wrote the renowned book It's Cold in the Channel, based on his Channel swimming experiences.
- "The Sam Rockett Collection" containing written material, photographs and other artifacts relating to Sam Rockett is held at the Dover Museum. The material was donated by Rockett's daughter, Janet Johnson.
- At the time of his successful channel swim (1950), Rockett was employed as a factory foreman in the Plastics Division at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).
