He wrote a short story called 'Futility' in 1898. It was about an unsinkable luxury liner called the 'Titan' that strikes an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sinks into the sea. After the sinking under eerily similar circumstances of the 'Titanic' in 1912, it was re-published as 'The Wreck of the Titan'.
