‘American Sniper’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Kyle Gallner, Ben Reed, Elise Robertson, Troy Vincent, Marnette Patterson, Billy Miller, Leonard Roberts, Reynaldo Gallegos, Kevin Lacz, Jake McDorman, Cory Hardrict, Eric Ladin | Written by Jason Hall | Directed by Clint Eastwood

I have a lot of time for the school of thought that suggests that you get out of a film only what you bring to it in the first place. I think this is particularly relevant for films that portray real life events and perhaps even more so for films that pertain to real life events that are relatively recent. American Sniper is Clint Eastwood’s depiction of the life of Chris Kyle, who became the deadliest sniper in Us history during the Iraq war. After seeing the film, I did a little reading around the subject and discovered Kyle to be a rather more controversial subject than you might expect based solely on the film. »

Review: 'Drumline: A New Beat' - The Panthers Didn't Need an Encore (On DVD & VOD Today)

The original “Drumline” was lightning in a bottle when it premiered in theaters over a decade ago in 2002. The combination of a star-making turn from Nick Cannon and the fact that it more or less made popular the conceit of pushing the traditional sports movie story through the filter of something that’s not a traditional sport was uniquely compelling, helped even more by a terrific supporting cast (Orlando Jones, Zoë Saldana, Leonard Roberts), dynamically shot drumming sequences, and its Hbcu setting. It wasn’t a classic by any means and it had its schmaltzy moments, but “Drumline” was really good and had genuine heart, and that shined through; it did for college football half-time »

Back in September, Marvel helped set up Agent Carter in the Season 2 premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with a 1940s flashback scene that featured Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and two of the Howling Commandos from Captain America: The First Avenger, Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) and Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi). Today, Marvel released a new clip from next week's Marvel's Agent Carter episode, "The Iron Ceiling", featuring the return of the Howling Commandos. This time around, Dum Dum Dugan and Jim Morita are joined by Junior Juniper (James Austin Kerr), Pinky Pinkerton (Richard Short) and Happy Sam Sawyer (Leonard Roberts)

Peggy is finally trusted with a mission and calls upon her Howling Commandos squad for backup. But her cover could be at risk when Ssr Chief Dooley (Shea Whigham) also sends Agent Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) with her.
