TV Review: ABC’s Latest ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot Fails to Take Flight

21 September 2011 5:25 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Out of all the franchises recently resurrected on the small screen, “Charlie’s Angels” is perhaps the least necessary. Does the world really need yet another rehash of the hit ’70s show that has been hailed for its female empowerment but was mainly popular because of its scantily clad female ensemble? There’s a very good reason why the show was referred to as “Jiggle TV,” and the reason was Farrah Fawcett.

Yet Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films seems determined to make the dated schlock relevant for a new generation. The company produced two “Angels” films in the early 2000s that were trashy fun at best, audience-insulting dreck at worst. Now Flower Films has teamed up with “Smallville” creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to launch the latest incarnation of “Angels” on the 35th anniversary of its original debut. Too bad the ladies’ clipped wings already appear primed for cancellation. »

CBS Films has acquired Hellfest, a script by William Penick and Chris Sey, for "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, who will produce the picture under her Valhalla Entertainment banner.

The story is about what happens at a Halloween theme park when one of the costumed characters is actually killing the patrons, who think it's all part of the show. Penick and Sey wrote the script from a concept by Valhalla's Ben Roberts, who'll be executive producer.

This is yet another deal for Hurd (pictured below with "The Walking Dead" star Andrew Lincoln), who recently joined forces with Aspen Comics on Dead Man's Run, a series that will be written by Greg Pak. In it Hell is an underground prison for the reanimated deal, and a man enlists a team of the damned to escape and save his innocent sister's soul.

Look for more on both projects soon! »

Gale Anne Hurd Finds A Hellfest

21 July 2011 7:00 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Even as she helps usher a fresh (probably the wrong word given the subject matter, but still…) batch of zombies on to the small screen while overseeing shooting on the second season of The Walking Dead, producer Gale Anne Hurd is not shying away from other horror projects. She’s attached to Hellfest for CBS Films.William Penick and Chris Sey wrote the script, which is set at a Halloween theme park. The patrons all think they’re there to enjoy a safe but scary time, only to discover that one of the costumed characters is bent on slaughtering them. Demon in disguise? Disgruntled worker gone mad? We’ll have to wait and see.The original idea sprang from the clearly warped noggin of Ben Roberts, who works at Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment company and will be an executive producer on the film.In related Hurd news, she’s also »
