Theory: Is Jeremy Irons playing Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

Thomas Roach with a theory on Jeremy Irons’ role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I have a theory about the upcoming Batman v Superman movie that I imagine not many people will like or agree with. I will tell you anyway, as I feel there are some valid points that back it up.

Jeremy Irons, who we have been told is playing Alfred in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is actually playing Bruce Wayne, and Ben Affleck is therefore likely playing a version of Robin who will wear the iconic suit.

The first reason that led me to conclusion is that there are rumours about many characters already being dead by the time the film takes place, such as Commissioner Gordon. If we believe this to be true, we all assume he has been killed by the Joker or someone else. But we could be wrong. Maybe he was just old? »

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser trailer | Flickering Myth Reaction

19 April 2015 11:19 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Flickering Myth team react…

The film may still be 11 months away, but we’ve been given our first look at Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice via a teaser trailer! It was first leaked online (who didn’t see that coming?!) and then it was officially released less than 24 hours later. But did the release of the excellent teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens dampen the spirits of the Flickering Mtyh writing and editorial staff?

Let’s find out…

Eddy Gardiner: I’ve said it from the very start: Affleck’s going to be a cracking Batman. Forget about the Star Wars trailer for a moment; this looks good.

Matthew Skeen: I think Affleck will fill the older Batman cowl well. Does look as gritty and dark as the source material, hopefully Henry Cavill will do better in this than his first outing.

Are Meryl Streep’s Oscar nominations bad for other actresses in the industry?

Thomas Roach on whether Meryl Streep’s Oscar nominations are bad for other actresses in the industry…

Tomorrow is the Academy Awards, which is seen as the most prestigious and important award show for the industry. The Oscars also cause some outrage, as many deem it too political. To win an Oscar you really just schmooze at Hollywood parties and get members to vote for you, it seems. The award show has on occasion given the most deserving person the Oscar, but there are many other times when it has not.

One nomination that surprised me this year is Meryl Streep for her role in Into The Woods. Streep currently has three Oscar wins for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice and The Iron Lady, with a further sixteen nominations on top of this. I wonder if her many nominations have been damaging to other actresses in the industry. Streep »

Neill Blomkamp is directing a new Alien movie – Flickering Myth Reaction

The Flickering Myth team react…

It all started with some concept art, then some chat from Sigourney Weaver the director himself and then the full confirmation. Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) will be helming a new Alien movie. But what did the Flickering Myth writing staff think of this news?

Chris Cooper: If it includes Ripley and Hicks, I am all over it.

Rob James Kojder: Sure, Blomkamp has made one great movie and one decent movie. Chappie looks alright but it’s District 9 all over, just with robots. His narratives are rather one-note themes of oppression that are getting stale. So in that regard, hopefully he uses this Alien movie to break out of that shell.

Gary Collinson (editor-in-cheif): I guess if they’re going to make another Alien movie, there are definitely worse choices than Neill Blomkamp to direct. The possibility of seeing Michael Biehn »

Thoughts on the The Fantastic Four trailer – Flickering Myth Reaction

The Flickering Myth staff react…

Well, it’s finally here. Despite some theories that this was going to be another Roger Corman attempt to keep hold of the franchise rights and nothing else, it seems as though Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four (or is that Fant4stic?) is very real. So, what did the writing and editorial staff of Flickering Myth make of it?

Chris Cooper: At no point have I understood the hate for this project. Okay, maybe the possible Dr Doom origin story. Anyway…the trailer looks good! I was a fan of both Evans and Chiklis but what I see here looks cool. The trailer did exactly what it needed to do: Make me interested.

Manny Camacho: I’m completely unimpressed. It looks to distract with visuals and still seemingly lacks a cohesive story that will aide in bridging the ridiculous casting choices. The teaser reminded »

Is Hank Pym a villain in Marvel’s Ant-Man?

Thomas Roach on whether Hank Pym could turn out to be a villain in Ant-Man

Over the last week we have got our first look at Marvel Studios’ ambitious project Ant-Man with the release of the first trailer and official images, as well as hearing from Marvel’s president Kevin Feige about the project. Not much is known about the project other than the synopsis, but having watched the trailer many times and knowing a few things about Marvel I am making a prediction. Hank Pym ,who is played by Michael Douglas, will be the movie’s main villain.

Whilst this argument will probably be seen as looking at coincidences and jumping to conclusions I still think this is worth talking about. This is not a rumour – this is simply my own speculation. If this does turn out to be true, I apologise for the spoiler.

Would it be wise to split Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

12 January 2015 1:25 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Thomas Roach on whether it would be wise to split Batman v Superman into two movies…

A few days ago an image arrived online which suggested that there are plans to split the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice into two movies – Part One being called Enter the Knight, which would be released this October, and Part Two entitled Dawn of Justice and slated for the film’s current slot in March 2016. Since this leaked image Henry Cavill was asked about the reports of the movie was being split in two, which he denied. But he would deny it though, wouldn’t he? Whilst we can assume that the image was fabricated, it is worth discussing how a split in the upcoming movie could benefit or harm the DC Cinematic Universe.

Firstly, it would be a wise decision as it would mean fans do not have as long to wait. »

Will Andy Serkis be playing a live-action role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

5 January 2015 11:00 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Thomas Roach on Andy Serkis’ role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens…

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens being one of the most anticipated films of 2015 there is always going to be a great deal of speculation from fans. The film has wrapped production and the cast have all been sworn to secrecy in order to not ruin any of the story before its release this December, with Oscar Issac even going so far as to say that the theories from fans “couldn’t be more far off-base”.

With that said, I have been thinking about how Andy Serkis will fit into the film. We heard him do the voiceover in the trailer but we don’t know who he is portraying. While this may not be as exciting as his character’s name or whether he’s a hero or a villain, I believe that Serkis will »
