Relativity Media and the Bandito Brothers, the team behind February's "Act of Valor" film, are shopping around a TV series version of the feature to both broadcast and cable networks says The Live Feed.
The original film mixed real life U.S. Navy SEALs and Navy Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen with actors like Roselyn Sanchez, Nestor Serrano and Emilio Rivera. Though the central story was fake, dealing with a mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent, the techniques and combat tactics used in the field were authentic.
Shot on the cheap, the film still managed to pull in a modest but profitable $80 million worldwide. With the show, the aim is to create "something more visceral than any other show on television" according to RelativityREAL CEO Tom Forman.
Bandito is also producing "React", a similar grounded in reality series about a secret black ops task force. That project is in development »

FX sent us over another featurette for the upcoming Sons of Anarchy season 5, continuing their “Before the Anarchy” pieces. This one strikes to the heart of the show, focusing on the Samcro rides: the bikes themselves. We get an inside look to some of the thoughts regarding the unique design and models of the Samcro (or rather, The Mayans) stable, introduced by Emilio Rivera, or as you probably know him, Marcus Álvarez, the Mayan’s boss, as they film a scene in Long Beach.
You may have seen some of the previous releases of ”Before the Anarchy”, which have included one that offers us a glimpse behind the scenes of season 5 newcomer Damon Pope (Lost’s Harold Perrineau) and Unser, and another that focused on the duo of Chucky and Gemma. Any insight on the new characters are welcome, as FX and Kurt Sutter has loaded up the new faces »

Former Suits showrunner Sean Jablonski is currently working with TNT to develop React, an original military series. Barry Josephson (Bones) and Scott Waugh (who served as producer, director and editor of Relativity Media's recent Act of Valor) are also signed on to the project. Waugh will handle the same duties on React as he did with Act of Valor, at least for the pilot. He will be joined by some of his Bandito Brothers partners should the series get picked up for a full run. TNT is hoping to capitalize on the popularity of Act of Valor, which, despite being critically panned, won a Teen Choice Award (kids these days …) for best action film. React would be based on the reality of life in a black ops task forces. For more on the project, hit the jump. Though THR clarifies that React is in no way officially linked with Act of Valor, »

Act of Valor, 2012.
During a mission to rescue a CIA agent a larger plot of terrorism is discovered.
Act of Valour is, quite frankly, a terrible film. It tries to be incredibly powerful and poignant yet fails miserably and is more akin to jocks butt slapping each other than a moving story about those in the military.
The film starts with a voice over as a letter is being written by a soldier to the son of another soldier which yes, completely gives away the fate of one of the characters. And I'm not giving you a spoiler there since the film actually does that itself, without even realising it I think.
We are introduced to the two main characters who are at a bar, one of whom is having a baby - »
Chicago – “Act of Valor” is a woeful miscalculation on every conceivable level. To call it a movie would be inaccurate. You know those slickly photographed, stupendously smug army recruitment videos that often appear in pre-show movie theater ads? Imagine one of those videos stretched to two hours and passed off as entertainment. It’s like a Michael Bay knockoff without the aliens.
After co-directing 2007’s documentary short, “Navy Swcc,” Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh were asked by the Navy to make a movie about the SEALs. Through their research, McCoy and Waugh decided that the only way to make an accurate film would be to cast real-life Navy SEALs who can shoot real guns and perform real stunts. Yet for all the “reality” on display, McCoy and Waugh have no idea how to make their film feel the least bit authentic.
Blu-ray Rating: 0.5/5.0

Although the film stumbles during the dialogue scenes and the plot seems very familiar, Act of Valor entertains thanks to its incredible action sequences and the level of authenticity that is captured on the screen. Marketed around the fact the film features actual active duty Navy SEALs, Act of Valor was directed by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh from a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad. It stars Jason Cottle, Nestor Serrano, Ailsa Marshall, Gonzalo Menendez, Emilio Rivera, Dimiter D. Marinov, Thomas Rosales Jr., Marc Margulies, Dan Southworth, Drea Castro, Marissa Labog, Alex Veadov and Roselyn Sanchez. The film.s plot is fairly straight forward and follows a Seal team as they hunt down a terrorist before he has a chance »

Running Time: 101 minutes
Synopsis: When a CIA agent is kidnapped, a Navy Seal team is dispatched on a rescue mission and uncover a terrorist plot against America…
Act Of Valour marks an interesting development in the world of film-making. With a cast made predominantly of active Us Navy Seals, and filmed primarily on consumer-level Dslr cameras, the film ushers in a new benchmark in the action genre. But while highly trained commandos provide an unprecedented level of ‘realism’ on camera, basically re-enacting things they do in real life, they aren’t necessarily well versed in the ins and outs of theatrics. The action scenes are spectacular, and the film is worth watching for these alone, but Act Of Valour suffers from weak characters and a convoluted plot which, although might not have been intentional, borders on the overly patriotic. »

This week, Fat Guy Kevin Carr fights a battle of wits between the stuffy and overly dramatic Oscar contenders that will be buzzing through the weekend and the genre-specific schlock that is being released with no hope of winning any sort of award at all. Before hunkering down on the couch to watch Billy Crystal time warp back into the mid-90s on Sunday, Kevin skydives into the multiplex to check out Act of Valor. Then he joins a commune to be a modern hippie while watching Wanderlust. Finally, he leaves the multiplex to stalk Amanda Seyfried and her on-screen sister because he believes he’s at least as creepy as the legions of creepy guys in Gone. Oh, and that Tyler Perry movie? He skips that with a wave of the hand and a snap of the fingers. If it ain’t got Madea in it, it ain’t worth watching! Want »

There are times I feel the need to walk on eggshells when discussing a film. Act Of Valor is one of those instances where I have two conflicting but equally valid opinions on the film.s perceived purpose and success thereof. For a film that has been relatively well marketed for what seems like a fairly good stretch of time, I imagine most who have seen the trailers and TV spots are well aware that the film is an action story based upon real tactics and missions, most likely a hybrid of several pieced together, as not to reveal any specifically sensitive information. Considering this, how does the film grade?
Act Of Valor is co-directed by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh. The film is cast with real, active-duty Navy SEALs, which on its own merit, is a really cool concept, a concept that equally fails and succeeds, depending on which »

Title: Act of Valor Directed By: Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh Starring: Roselyn Sanchez, Jason Cottle, Alex Veadov, Nestor Serrano, Emilio Rivera Basing a film on true events really puts the audience in a hard place. The character on screen is doing something great and so did a real person out there in the world. How can you criticize a movie about Navy SEALs who really risked everything for their country? As nice as it would be to give these guys some Oscar statues to add to their likely endless collection of medals, they’re Navy SEALs, not actors and Act of Valor is a videogame with killer effects on automatic »
