Actor Jason Ritter fancies himself as a real-life medic after brushing up on life-saving techniques for new TV series County.

The W star plays an intern at Los Angeles County Hospital in the drama and admits he went to great lengths to make sure he looked the part.

He tells WENN, "There was a lot of work that went into that job. I felt much more like a doctor by the time we finished.

"I imagine I would know how to save someone dying on the street but in reality I would probably call a real doctor. I do know CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) now and could start while we were waiting for the paramedics to arrive!" »

The Ripple Effects of the Killed 2012 Pilots

22 May 2012 10:15 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Now that the networks have announced their fall (and midseason) schedules for next season, we can gaze upon the annual pilot graveyard and despair. The pilot process is a fraught one, and this year, several high-profile projects didn't make the cut. It's not all bad news, though: That frees up some of our favorite performers and writers for other gigs — at least, we hope so. Herewith, a list of the shows that are floating off to the TV scrap heap in the sky.County, NBC Jason Ritter, Michael Imperioli, Michael B. Jordan, and Norbert Leo starred in the Jason Katims ER-like hospital drama. Big loss? Yes and no: There's not really a big need for a hospital drama, and while we love the cast and creative team, wouldn't you rather see Katims (Fnl, Parenthood) keep his focus on less-predictable formats? Ripple effect: Ritter can stay on Parenthood next season! »

Best and worst decisions of the 2012 upfronts

18 May 2012 1:40 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Broadcast’s dog-and-pony shows in New York City are finally over, but the walk-up to the fall 2012-2013 lineup has only just begun. Before we start wringing our hands over Britney Spears’ emotional readiness to be a reality show judge, we have some knee-jerk reactions to what we saw and heard this week:

Biggest trend: Comedy explosion. There’s 29 sitcoms hitting the air this fall — and we’re not including Rock Center With Brian Williams. That’s an enormous number of couches, awkward dates and workplace misunderstandings. Tuesdays will be a three-network comedy traffic jam, while ABC and NBC will offload extra chuckles into Fridays. »

‘The Perfect Family’ Navigates the Unavoidable Imperfections of Family, Faith and First-time Directors

11 May 2012 4:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The Perfect Family stars Kathleen Turner as a devout Catholic woman with two grown children. She prays before every meal, delivers food to elderly residents unable to leave their homes, and even assists Monsignor Murphy (Richard Chamberlain) with Communion during Mass. She couldn’t be more thrilled when she discovers she’s been nominated for Catholic Woman of the Year, but when she’s told the judges need to evaluate her entire family before making their decision she moves into overdrive to ensure they resemble nothing less than the perfect Catholic family. But with a son (Jason Ritter) who’s left his wife and kids for the bed of another woman, a daughter (Emily Deschanel) who’s in a lesbian relationship, and a husband who’s a recovering alcoholic, winning this major award isn’t going to be easy. Eileen sets out to correct these “wrongs” and discovers some truths along the way…truths »

Q&A: Nice Guy Jason Ritter Speaks Softly, Carries 'A Bag of Hammers'

11 May 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

We're just gonna say it: Jason Ritter is the nicest guy ever. Sure, he also happens to be crazy talented, but it's pretty clear that much of the heartfelt depth he gives to his roles comes from his naturally kind disposition -- which might be why he is one of the rare actors who can transition seamlessly from crime mysteries (NBC's short-lived "The Event") to dramedies (the series "Parenthood," also on NBC) to indie films, like his latest, "A Bag of Hammers."

Jason plays Ben, a silk-bathrobe-wearing car thief who has gotten "on the property ladder" early with his Bff and partner in crime, Alan (Jake Sandvig). When they rent their income property to a struggling single mom, however, they end up a wee bit (read: a whole lot) in over their heads. We chatted with Jason about the possibility of fatherhood, what makes Rebecca Hall so posh and why he's a proud Prius owner. »

Review: A Breezy, But Meandering 'A Bag Of Hammers' Is Only Half A Movie

11 May 2012 8:05 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

There are ample pleasures of the half-movie. Features of the half-film include a lack of b-plot, a meandering tone, haphazard scenes, and a barely feature-length runtime. The reasons why productions result in half-movies usually come from vastly re-written scripts, overrunning schedules and/or eclipsing an allotted budget, but they tend to fade away into obscurity. “A Bag Of Hammers,” which opens in theaters showing actual whole movies this Friday, features a few likable actors and a strong score from Johnny Flynn, and so it qualifies as a breezy diversion of sorts. But is it a movie?

Ben and Alan are a couple of twentysomething cons who run a series of scams landing somewhere south of sustainable. While they lift cars from the bereaved at funerals and flip them for profit, they somehow manage to keep maintenance on a couple of homes, including providing support to Alan’s sister Mel (Rebecca Hall »

'Parenthood' Season 4 renewed: Lauren Graham and Peter Krause remain Bravermans for 15 episodes

10 May 2012 2:52 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Get ready for Bill O'Reilly to be absolutely scandalized, folks. "Parenthood" is coming back to NBC! You'll want to stock up on tissues, as NBC has officially alerted the cast and crew of "Parenthood" that they'll be returning to the set to shoot Season 4.

The bad news is that the drama has only been picked up for 15 episodes beginning in Fall 2012, but there's always the chance that NBC may extend the order, as they did this past season.

The regular cast will return, including Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, and Erika Christensen. Additionally, Jason Ritter -- who once again has been cast in another pilot this season -- has promised to return to his role as Mark, if only to wrap up some storylines... like that whole engagement-to-Sarah thing.

We can't wait to see what's next for our Bravermans. And whether or not Sarah and Amber open a bakery. Or an inn. »

NBC Renews Parenthood and The Office; Orders 13-Episode Final Season of 30 Rock

10 May 2012 2:33 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Two on-the-bubble NBC shows have officially been given the order for new seasons.  The critical favorite yet ratings challenged drama Parenthood has been renewed for a 15-episode fourth season (per TV Line).  Showrunner Jason Katims is no stranger to ratings issues despite favorable reviews, as he led the stellar Friday Night Lights through five seasons of “will it be renewed?” drama.  I’m a fan of the ensemble and tone of Parenthood, but Katims will most likely have his hands full next season as his medical pilot County is said to be close to a pick up.  That show will star Jason Ritter, who led the doomed The Event and has been a frequent guest star on Parenthood. Hit the jump for news regarding renewals for The Office and a final season for 30 Rock, as well as speculation about the fate of Community and Parks and Recreation. Additionally, Deadline reports »

A Bag of Hammers is like the funny guy at parties. He’s not perfect, maybe a bit of a lush and flabby around the middle, but you love having him around. You don't have to be a movie genius to know who will rule the box office this weekend. With "The Avengers" wiping the floor with every other blockbuster ever, audiences will likely continue to assemble. However, if you think there's a little too much life in the Joss Whedon opus, its weekend competitor, "Dark Shadows," might be more to your taste. This weekend, Tim Burton's vampiric comedy is the only new release going head-to-head against the action juggernaut. So! Let's take a look at this David vs. Goliath tale, and the box-office predictions, in Moviefone's Weekend Movie Preview. Nationwide Releases "Dark Shadows" What's the story? Based on the 1960s gothic television soap, "Dark Shadows" follows imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), who awakens from a 200-year slumber to settle a score with a jealous witch. The Perfect Family Movie Review

8 May 2012 4:52 AM, PDT | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

Title: The Perfect Family Director: Anne Renton Starring: Kathleen Turner, Emily Deschanel, Jason Ritter, Sharon Lawrence, Michael McGrady, Angelique Cabral, Richard Chamberlain, Elizabeth Pena A putative dramedy centering on the happy-face domestic veneer many of us feel it so necessary to play-act and pantomime, ”The Perfect Family” never locates and communicates a very persuasive reason for its existence, or even a compelling dramatic throughline. As a vehicle for the not-much-seen Kathleen Turner, this indie film from first-time director Anne Renton, which premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, is so-so, but that represents the high point of qualified recommendation for this resolutely middle-of-the-road affair, a cinematic “meh” if ever there were one. Jason Ritter Remembers His Dad

7 May 2012 12:09 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Jason Ritter has had quite a few busy years, from starring on the ill-fated NBC conspiracy thriller "The Event," to becoming part of the "Parenthood" family. Next up for the actor is a role in "A Bag of Hammers," in which he and Jake Sandvig play two misfit friends who become involved with an abandoned child, played by Chandler Canterbury.

Ritter talked to The Huffington Post about his burgeoning career and following in the footsteps of his late father, actor John Ritter.

Were you a misfit in school?

To a certain degree. I can relate to my character in that I had my little solid group of friends and we had our own sort of system going. We didn’t really care what the rest of the world thought of us.

What has been your favorite project to work on so far?

I had an incredible time working on "The Event. »

Director: Anne Renton Writers: Paula Goldberg, Claire V. Riley Starring: Emily Deschanel, Jason Ritter, Kathleen Turner, Richard Chamberlain, Elizabeth Peña, Michael McGrady, Sharon Lawrence, Kristen Dalton, Scott Michael Campbell, Angelique Cabral With The Perfect Family, director Anne Renton poses the age old question: aren't Catholics silly? They have a holier than thou attitude because they go to church so frequently and do penance just as often. They strive for sainthood and obey every word of their supreme leader, the Pope. They also believe that their god is the cause of everything that happens to them (no matter if its good or bad) because its all part of their god's plan; in turn, they tend to say a lot of prayers for everything and everyone. Eileen (Kathleen Turner) is one such dedicated Catholic; in fact, she is so devout that she has been nominated as a contender for Catholic Woman of the Year. »

Kathleen Turner Talks The Perfect Family and Californication

3 May 2012 8:31 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Perfect Family, from first-time feature director Anne Renton, tells the story of suburban super-mom Eileen Cleary (Academy Award nominee Kathleen Turner), the ultimate devoted Catholic who gets nominated for the coveted Catholic Woman of the Year Award at her local parish and will go to any lengths to prove she’s worthy of the title. But, needing the church board’s approval is proving to be a difficult task, with her non-conformist family that includes a gay daughter (Emily Deschanel), an unhappily married son (Jason Ritter) and her recovering alcoholic husband (Michael McGrady). At the film’s press day, Collider spoke to actress Kathleen Turner, in both a roundtable and a 1-on-1 interview, about how she came to be a part of this indie film, the ways in which she identified with her character, the challenge of finding roles that are not so predictable, and how she hopes audiences »

Tribeca 2012 Review: Free Samples

2 May 2012 4:39 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

I will throw myself onto the altar as a sacrificial lamb so that fellow critics much better than I do not fall prey to using the following super cheesy & painfully obvious opening statement in their future reviews of this film. Remember me as a hero…

Much like the parked ice cream truck Jess Weixler finds herself stuck in for the majority of the running time, Free Samples goes nowhere. Yes, I know that’s bad. It’s the sort of line your friendly neighborhood entertainment guru will say in his segment on the local news in attempt to be clever. Unfortunately it does perfectly apply to the film. Hungover and unsure of pretty much everything in her life, Jillian (Jess Weixler) finds herself working all day parked in a vacant lot handing out free samples of an ice cream-like substance to a cast of quirky characters. Jason Ritter's 'Perfect' Families

1 May 2012 12:50 PM, PDT | TheInsider.com | See recent The Insider news »

Jason Ritter stars in an excellent new film called The Perfect Family, where the characters comprise a clan that is anything but. From The Cleary's blindly devout mother to her lesbian daughter and directionless son, the film is a fascinating portrait of a modern American family -- one that puts the fun is dysfunction.

And a family that stands in stark contrast to the all-too-together Bravermans on NBC's Parenthood, where Jason plays Mark, potential fiance of eldest daughter Sarah. But what effect will his role on a potential new NBC series have on Mark's return? That was one of the questions I asked Jason when we caught up earlier this week to chat.

Insider.com: What attracted you to this movie?

Jason Ritter: I was reading and enjoying the script, but found myself worrying about how it would end – it's this very fragile material. You have to walk a tightrope while talking about these issues because »

Hill Country Ff Review: The Perfect Family

1 May 2012 11:30 AM, PDT | Slackerwood | See recent Slackerwood news »

Dear Kathleen Turner: I missed you. I confess I'd almost forgotten about you. And then you turned up surprisingly in the starring role of The Perfect Family, leading a cast that worked together beautifully to portray a very believable family, even amid an often-unbelievable plot. Don't be a stranger, okay?

In The Perfect Family, Turner plays Eileen Cleary, a devout Catholic middle-aged wife-and-mom whose spends her days in charitable church-related activities, such as delivering meals to the elderly, now that her children are grown and out of the house. Monsignor Murphy (Richard Chamberlain) nominates her for the church's Catholic Woman on the Year award ... and she'll be competing against a woman who's been her rival since grade school. The winner will receive the sacrament of absolution from the Archbishop of Dublin, who will attend the award ceremony.

The monsignor tells Eileen to expect a home visit where her children should be present, »
