Drive-In Dust Offs: X: The Man With The X-ray Eyes

4 June 2016 10:50 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Undisputed Fact: Roger Corman is the greatest B picture producer of all time. His ability to find (and exploit, if we’re being honest) amazing talent and pull together movie miracles on miniscule budgets is nothing short of astonishing. However, it’s often downplayed what a smart, succinct director he was on many a project. X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963) is a stellar example of his talent behind the lens.

Released by Aip in September, X turned a tidy profit on top of its $250,000 budget. Critics were generally kind, but dismissive, calling X well made hokum, essentially. And due to its meager fundage X certainly shows its pedigree through petty set design. But…there’s a kinetic buzz that permeates every frame of X, a swirling colorgasm that bleeds through with Corman’s gift for storytelling. X rises from pulp to a lucid perfection.

Best Gambling Scenes In Movies

13 April 2016 1:06 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Gambling has become a part of the movies, and indeed television as well. In a recent episode of the new HBO TV show Vinyl, which is executive produced by filmmaking legend Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter and none other than Mick Jagger, the show’s protagonist Richie Finestra (played by Bobby Canavale) was seen pushing $90,000 onto the roulette table after selling the company’s private jet.

It’s quite a powerful and brave scene, but of course film and television content have had a long relationship, and with free online pokies featuring famous properties, including Game Of Thrones and even the classic Hitchcock film Psycho, their tie is becoming even greater. The worlds of gambling and film and TV are becoming more aligned.

Vinyl may be the latest TV show to feature gambling, but it certainly wasn’t the first. Here, we take a look at our favourite gambling scenes from the movies, »

Kathy Griffin is remembering Joan Rivers in a new documentary premiering Friday. In an exclusive sneak peek at Joan Rivers: Exit Laughing, Griffin remembers watching her mentor on TV when she was a younger - and being inspired how the late comedian broke ground for female comics. "No matter what she did, she had that fire in her eye. That's what you would see in the male stars as well, but it was a little unique to see it in a female star. She had the same kind of drive that the boys had," says Griffin. "What that said »

The election clock is ticking. By March 15, enough delegates will be awarded that we should know the presumptive presidential nominees - and much to the dismay of many Republican Party elders, the Gop candidate will likely be Donald Trump. But in his Super Tuesday victory speech last night, Trump, who won seven of 11 states on the day with the most delegates at stake, vowed to unite the Republican party and lead it to victory in November. Review: 'The Triumph 2016 Election Special' is The Political Coverage This Presidential Campaign Deserves

While Indiewire is not a political site, an election year means that politics seep into every aspect of our lives, most especially our popular culture. This year, the field of candidates maybe has us wishing there was some sort of safe place — a refuge from the madness. Such a place may not exist, so here's the next best thing: a crude, brutal takedown of the candidates and culture surrounding this year's campaign starring a rubber dog puppet.  Read More: Watch: You Can't Handle the Truth of Kevin Bacon's Acting in 'Funny or Die' Series For those not familiar with Robert Smigel's most famous creation (okay, maybe second-most-famous, thanks to The Ambiguously Gay Duo), Triumph is an insult comic in the grand tradition of Don Rickles and the like. The Wrap has revealed that Leslie Mann (Vacation) has signed on to appear alongside Robert De Niro (Joy) in The Comedian, replacing Jennifer Aniston who has had to pull out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Leslie Mann‘s impeccable timing and ability to inject drama into comedy make her the right choice for the film. We are so excited to welcome her to the cast of The Comedian,” states producer Courtney Solomon.

The Comedian is being directed by Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a GentlemanRay) and stars De Niro as “a toxic insult comic on the order of a Don Rickles”, who unexpectedly connects with Mann’s character after a meeting at a wedding.
