Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Review: A Roaring Pop-Fueled Ride

24 April 2017 3:10 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a roaring space adventure filled with humor and heart. It doesn't quite reach the greatness of the original, but comes close enough to be a smashing success. Director/writer James Gunn gives each character their moment to shine. The primary cast is superb, but the film is loaded with small roles that add up to a whole lot of quirkiness. Guardians 2 bursts unto the screen like a pack of rainbow Skittles. It's an eighties pop fueled ride that starts the summer movie season off with a technicolor bang. This review is completely spoiler free.

Guardians 2 leaps headfirst into the plot like a diver into a shallow pool. We pick up the crew: Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and the adorable Baby Groot (Vin Diesel), on a job that's gone decidedly south. Movies to Show My Son: ‘Toy Story’

24 April 2017 4:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Welcome to another installment of Movies to Show My Son. This is the blog series were I discuss movies I can’t way to show my son in the future. I’ll be covering my own personal experience with the movie, movie and life lessons I hope he will learn, and lastly my concerns about showing said film. This week’s film is Toy Story.

Personal Memories:

Toy Story is one of those movies that I remember exactly the first time I saw it. I did not go to the theater much as a kid so I caught up with it when it hit VHS…yes VHS. I was home sick one day and we recently picked up a copy for our family. I would like to think my being home from school and recently buying Toy Story were unrelated but I cannot guarantee that to be the case.

22 April 2017 10:27 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Steven Spielberg’s untitled Pentagon Papers drama announced itself as a major awards season contender in this year’s Oscars race.

The film, which is rumored to star Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, will open in limited release on December 22, 2017. It will expand nationwide on January 12, 2018, a week after the Golden Globes broadcast. Hanks will play hard-charging Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, with Streep handling the role of iron-willed publisher Katharine Graham. The pair made the decision to publish a classified history of the United States’ involvement in the Vietnam War over the objections of the Nixon administration. Courageous journalist dramas have played nicely with Oscar voters — 2015’s “Spotlight” won Best Picture, while 2005’s “Good Night and Good Luck” and 1976’s “All the President’s Men” earned a bevy of nominations.

The opening slot puts the Spielberg film in the hunt for Academy Awards gold along with the likes of Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing, »
