Chrome Shelled Regios: Part 2 DVD Review

18 May 2014 3:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Itsuro Kawasaki

Starring: Ayahi Takagaki, Brina Palencia, Mai Nakahara, Monica Rial, Mikako Takahashi, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Todd Haberkorn

 Running Time: 300 minutes

Certificate: 15

The heavily influenced dystopian show is back to complete its run, and this time the show manages to underplay elements taken from other films and television programmes. There’s a greater focus on character and politics in this collection of episodes, and although that may sound like a good thing, it makes the show a rather convoluted and confusing watch.

Chrome Shelled Regios doesn’t exactly supply any memorable characters, and nor does it focus on a a particular character or group for a decent amount of time. The narrative is constantly switching in order to build a world in which we can feel engaged, but this is something that should have been done in the first place. Complications for the latter half of the series »

Chrome Shelled Regios Part 1 DVD Review

20 April 2014 2:21 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Starring: Ayahi Takagaki, Brina Palencia, Mai Nakahara, Monica Rial, Mikako Takahashi, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Todd Haberkorn

 Running Time: 300 minutes

Chrome Shelled Regios sounds like a wonderful idea at first, but it isn’t long before your mind starts connecting the dots and realising that every aspect of this dystopian science-fiction has been taken from previous anime, films, TV series and novels. It’s a rough compilation of ideas thrown together resulting in the anime equivalent to a hurried out album of various artists which is released to cash in on an upcoming Holiday/event. That’s not to say it’s terrible. Like any compilation, there are loads of great “tracks”, but there is also a lot of filler, and ideas that have worked better elsewhere.

The main locale of the series is set in a city that resides in a huge dome. This dome »

Infinite Stratos DVD Review

13 February 2014 5:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Yasuhito Kikuchi

Starring: Kouki Uchiyama, Josh Grelle, Yoko Hikasa, Monica Rial, Asami Shimoda, Hilary Haag, Kana Hanazawa, Shannon Emerick, Makoto Yasumura, Chris Ayres, Marina Inoue, Tiffany Grant

 Running Time: 325 minutes

Certificate: 15

Harem and mecha, together at last! When originality is hard to come by, why not just shove two popular genres of anime into one? Infinite Stratos is a argument both for and against such a tactic, as it may showcase the optimistic and fun tropes of the genres, but it also has twice the limitations, constantly highlighting the generic twists and turns.

Infinite Stratos is the name of a mechanical suit that would be perfect for war. Interestingly enough, this universe has outlawed the machines as such weapons and so they are used exclusively for sports. That’s the most fascinating thing about the show, as it takes large weaponised creations and reduces their sinister edge. Stars of »

Is This A Zombie Of The Dead DVD Review

17 January 2014 10:03 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Takaomi Kanasaki,

Starring: Junji Majima, Austin Tindle, Iori Nomizu, Jad Saxton, Midori Tsukimiya, Cherami Leigh, Ai Shimizu, Monica Rial, Aya Goda, Caitlin Glass, Hiroyuki Toshino, Anthony Bowling, Hisako Kanemoto, Brittney Karbowski,

Running Time: 325 minutes

Certificate: 15

Extras: Episode 1 Visual Commentary, Episode 10 Audio Commentary

Is This A Zombie Of The Dead is the second season of a show that messes with the Zombie formula more so than Twilight did with vampires and werewolves. Although this isn’t a huge issue, you soon start to forget that there is anything wrong with the lead character of Ayuma. Very rarely, if ever, do his zombie powers come into play. A show shouldn’t need to go overboard with the demonstration of powers from the supernatural lead, but unfortunately season 2 has but one thing on its mind. Sex!

Anime has never been the most subtle of mediums when it comes to mixing humour and sex. »
