Starting out in university radio and working his way to the renowned Shaw Festival, Callum moved to Vancouver and quickly caught the eye of producers and directors. Currently he lives in Vancouver.

Vocalist Ben Kowalewicz of the popular Canadian punk-rock band 'Billy Talent' has stated that Rennie is his favorite Canadian actor. Rennie played the character Billy Tallent in the Bruce McDonald film Hard Core Logo (1996), which is what inspired the band's name.
Went to high school with Bruce McCulloch, who mentioned him in at least one "The Kids in the Hall" (1988) sketch. In the sketch, Bruce is giving advice on how to break into showbiz, and it includes "drinking a lot with guys like Callum Rennie and Terry Rockio and pissing out the back of a fast-moving truck.".
