7 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Mondo has unveiled a rather nice poster for last year’s Marvel blockbuster Captain America: Civil War. Illustrated by Tyler Stout, poster is available now over on Mondo’s official site and comes in three versions: regular, priced at $65, a variant priced at $110, and a ‘Vibranium’ metal poster priced at $350; take a look here…

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. »

The Last Oscar Week

17 February 2017 8:00 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

In this weekly feature from Murtada we follow Oscar contender appearances and interviews

The Oscars are just 9 days away so this will be our last Oscar Week column of the season. Let’s look at how contenders are hustling in Phase 2. In this phase campaigns pivot their messages to try and secure the win. This gives us more pointed and sometimes bold messaging. Like the exploitative use of the Muslim Travel ban by Lion. Always happy to see Sonny Pawar's expressive face, but this message is a bit of a stretch. Arrival is going for the heartstrings, showing Amy Adams hugging Jeremy Renner and talking to her daughter, rather than talking up the sci-fi elements. This is smart messaging since the mother-daughter relationship is what most leave the theater talking about »

‘The House’ Trailer: Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler Run an Underground Casino (Watch)

16 February 2017 12:38 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler are bringing badassery to suburbia in the first trailer for the New Line comedy “The House,” which has a prime summer release date of June 2, 2017.

Ferrell and Poehler portray parents who lose the money intended to pay for their daughter’s college tuition and open an underground casino out of desperation. Poehler totes a flame-thrower, proclaiming “I feel like such a badass!”

They also wind up telling their alarmed daughter — played by Ryan Simpkins — to keep her nose out of their business. “We love you so much but you need to shut up,” Ferrell tells her.

The trailer concludes with the implication of a cheater getting axed on some undisclosed part of his body after he taunts Ferrell and Poehler by saying, “What are you going to do about it?”

Blu-ray Review – Arrival (2016)

15 February 2017 2:40 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Arrival, 2016.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve

Starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Tzi Ma.

When twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world, linguistics professor Louise Banks is tasked with interpreting the language of the apparent alien visitors.

In an era full of crash-bang-gee-whiz science-fiction films, a movie like Arrival is a welcome it of fresh air. While its plot treads well-worn movie tropes about fearing aliens who suddenly arrive from another planet and humanity’s struggles to unite in their response to the situation, Arrival’s story digs deep into some interesting themes, including the question, “If you knew the future, would you change anything you’re doing right now?”

Based on Ted Chiang’s tale “Story of Your Life,” Arrival stars Amy Adams as Louise, a college professor who’s a well-known linguist. One day, a dozen alien spaceships arrive at different places around the world, »

Yep, yet another fleet of giant alien spaceships has Earth surrounded, but Denis Villeneuve’s movie is not your garden variety invasion fantasy. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner have a limited time to figure out how to communcate with alien creatures whose intentions are a complete unknown. It’s a rare sci-fi thriller that succeeds on a personal and emotional level — while teaching us how to converse in coffee stain hieroglyphics.

Just in case you were worried, Stephen McFeely doesn't really give any spoilers, but just merely gives an idea of what Thanos is ultimately trying to accomplish in vague terms. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow Movie Comes Down To “Timing”

10 February 2017 11:57 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Marvel certainly doesn’t have a shortage of movies on their plate at the moment. This year alone, they’ve got Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok set for release, and that’s without mentioning the multiple other films in various stages of production. Yet, Black Widow remains curiously without her own starring vehicle, even though Johansson was 2016’s top-grossing starlet. Indeed, it’s a no-brainer, yet Marvel still doesn’t have Black Widow on their schedule. So, what gives?

According to Johansson herself, it’s a “timing” matter that’s preventing it from happening. In an interview with Total Film for next month’s Ghost in the Shell remake, Johansson discussed the long-promised project, believing it’s still very much possible.

I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it. We’re creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, »
