John Wick 3 Release Date Announced for Summer 2019

14 September 2017 4:33 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It's official, everyone's favorite dog-loving assassin is closing out the franchise in the summertime. Lionsgate has handed out a May 17, 2019 release date for John Wick 3, which has already been confirmed to be the final John Wick movie. It seems that Lionsgate is really swinging for the fences with this final installment, giving it a plum summer date after releasing the first two movies during fall and winter months that aren't nearly as lucrative.

Deadline reports that, as of now, John Wick: Chapter 3 is the only movie slated for release on May 17, 2019, but there are some huge movies already slated to open during that month. Marvel will kick off the summer 2019 movie season with Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019, with TriStar's The Rosie Project and Stx's Uglydoll arriving on May 10. Also arriving on May 24, 2019 are Disney's Aladdin remake and Warner Bros.' Minecraft. While this is certainly an incredibly competitive field to »

Destiny 2 Review

13 September 2017 7:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Bungie bit off a little more than they could chew three years ago when they unleashed the first Destiny game into the world. It was a franchise-in-the-making that made so many promises, that when gamers finally got their hands on it, it was impossible to not be a little disappointed. But Bungie wasn’t done. The famed developer of Halo set out to right the Destiny ship one expansion at a time, and by year three and the release of Rise of Iron, the franchise was on solid ground, both critically and commercially. Now, Bungie has left the first epic part of the story of the Traveler and the Guardians in the past, and has forged ahead with a brand new tale with Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is a true rebirth of the franchise. Taking a page out of Nintendo’s playbook with Metroid’s Samus Aran, Destiny 2 opens with the player »

As America Reels from Charlottesville, ‘Lemon’ Finds Comedy in Unmasking Racism

17 August 2017 1:34 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The footage of white supremacists and neo-Nazis marching through Charlottesville is horrific, although there’s comic value in the absurdity of racist lunatics trooping to home improvement centers so they could wield tiki torches. Still, for late-night talk show hosts and other comedians, the prospects of mining humor from this peacock display of American bigotry was a strict no-fly zone.

Enter “Lemon.” When it premiered at Sundance in January, writer-director Janicza Bravo’s unnerving first feature was a fascinating deconstruction of white male privilege and racist ideology; in the shadow of Charlottesville, her satire echoes the headlines as it arrives in theaters and VOD on August 18.

In the movie, Bravo (a black woman born in Panama and raised in the U.S.) directs her husband, comedian Brett Gelman, who’s white. Gelman plays Isaac, a disgruntled and alienated playwright. »

Every Episode of ‘Rick and Morty,’ Ranked

Rick and Morty” does things no other TV shows would dare to do. Even with the infinite possibilities of a portal gun, this is a show that regularly finds a way to reinvent its own rules and subvert expectations of what a comedy can achieve in half-hour increments.

So, in a constant quest to help “Rick and Morty” newbies find the ideal entry point into the series (and to prove to everyone the microverse car battery episode is vastly under-appreciated), we’ve separated out every installment of the show with a little bit of context to explain why each episode deserves its place in the show’s hierarchy.

‘Rick and Morty’ Review: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Gets a Deadly Twist in ‘Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender’

13 August 2017 10:27 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Rick and Morty” Season 3, Episode 4, “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender.”]

At its best, “Rick and Morty” is a show that’s been able to take the basic, ordinary parts of human life and spin them into grand, misshapen sci-fi horrors. Dogs taking over the world, parasites taking over happy memories, and a school dance becoming the platform for an army of Cronenbergs all came from a simple premise warped so fully that the result was twisted, unrecognizable bliss.

“Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender” is an episode as deceptive as its title. What starts as a means for a “Guardians of the Galaxy”-style adventure against a looming foe gets the “Rick and Morty” treatment by putting that formula in reverse. It’s no surprise that this show would take a premise with unlimited possibilities and trap this supersquad in a simplistic “Saw”-bstacle course. Even if some of it feels a little familiar, at least it’s sending things in a different direction. »

Lionsgate acquires actioner Ballerina – Is John Wick getting its own cinematic universe?

26 July 2017 7:39 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

It seems Lionsgate wants in on the cinematic universe fad and looks set to turn its action series John Wick into the next big expanded franchise (well, they couldn’t do the same for La La Land could they?!)

The Hollywood Reporter has noted that the studio is looking at an outward expansion for the action thriller after it acquired the rights to a new action script called Ballerina. The female-driven thriller is written by up-and-coming writer Shay Hatten, who is currently working for Robert Downey Jnr’s production company as a writer’s assistant and who wrote the screenplay for Maximum King, a script he also wrote that recently was added to the Black List.

Ballerina would follow in the style of La Femme Nikita, Luc Besson’s acclaimed 90’s thriller, the script also has “stylised” moments closer to Quentin Tarantino and Matthew Vaughn. The story »

Destiny 2: hands on with the beta

Riyad Emeran Jul 24, 2017

The beta of Destiny 2 opened last week, and we have a few thoughts...

I stopped playing Destiny about eight months ago, but despite that I’ve managed to clock in over 50-days of playtime! While many modern games struggle to deliver 15 or 20 hours of gameplay, I’ve spent over 1,200 hours in the company of my fellow guardians, battling through a confused and fragmented, yet ultimately compelling universe. Even when you consider that I would have spent around £125 on the game and expansion packs, that’s a pretty incredible return on investment.

When I finally kicked my Destiny habit I found myself playing some other great games that I may have otherwise missed – Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Resident Evil 7, Dishonored 2, to name but a few – but as Michael Corleone once said, just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

‘John Wick: Chapter 2′ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Common, Claudia Gerini, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Tobias Segal, John Leguizamo | Written by Derek Kolstad | Directed by Chad Stahelski

2014′s John Wick took pretty much everyone by surprise. The third in a trilogy of action movies Keanu Reeves made in 2013/4, John Wick succeeded where 47 Ronin and The Man of Tai Chi (in which Reeves played the villain) didn’t. And that’s not to say that either of those films were sub-par, far from it. However there was something about the stoic, unstoppable hitman John Wick that resonated with audiences across the globe. And so three years later we finally get a sequel.

From the same writer/director team as the first film, Derek Kolstad and Chad Stahelski respectively, John Wick: Chapter 2 picks up where the first film left off. Literally. John heads back to the gang who stole his »

Long before John Wick: Chapter 2 hit theaters in February, director Chad Stahelski revealed that Lionsgate has already asked him to start exploring ideas for John Wick 3. The filmmaker confirmed that both Ian McShane's Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, and Lance Reddick's Charon, the hotel concierge, will be back, along with Keanu Reeves as the title character. While doing press for the home video release of John Wick: Chapter 2, director Chad Stahelski revealed that he's currently in the middle of writing the script. Here's what the filmmaker had to say below.

Destiny 2 Adds More Story, Locations, and Multiplayer Features

18 May 2017 12:16 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

This September, Bungie and Activision will launch Destiny 2 on Xbox One, PS4, and finally PC.  Before that launch day arrives, the developers decided to throw a big preview event to show off their sequel!

When the first Destiny came out, a few years ago, the main complaint from fans was the weak campaign.  Bungie and Activision took that criticism and used it to fuel the campaign for Destiny 2.  The result is a story that looks deeper, richer, and interesting.  You can see it in full-force in the gameplay trailer they released.

Where the first Destiny had Dinklebot (Peter Dinklage) lazily taking center-stage, Destiny 2 is putting the focus on the leaders of the Guardians in Destiny 2.  That means we'll learn a lot more about Cayde-6 (Nathan Fillion), Zavala (Lance Reddick), and Ikora (Gina Torres) as the Cabal invade Earth.

Speaking of the Cabal, in Destiny 2, they will be your main adversary. »

Reggie Watts and ‘The New Negroes’ Lead Comedy Central’s Attempts to Find the Next ‘Key & Peele’ and Amy Schumer

Comedy Central’s latest development slate is diverse in more ways than one.

Not only has the cable network put together several new series with performers of color at the center, but the three shows picked up Tuesday by Comedy Central are all very different.

Ordered to series are the stand-up/musical show “The New Negroes,” the comedy game show “Taskmaster” and the scripted comedy “Corporate.” In development are shows from creators including Awkwafina, Neal Brennan, Arturo Castro, Franchesca Ramsey, Noël Wells and Flint Wainess, among others.

“The network when I got here was pretty traditionally targeted toward young white guys, both in terms of who the audience was and who was creating the shows for the audience,” said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman. “We started changing that a few years ago by expanding that into having funny women on the network, with Amy Schumer and Broad City and a lot more since. »

Bosch Season 3 Review

13 April 2017 1:40 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Five episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

There are two questions a viewer might ask going into the third season of Bosch. The first is what Bosch offers that other television shows about homicide detectives do not, and the second is what a third season of Bosch offers that the first two seasons did not.

The first of these answers comes easily: Bosch offers one of the most patient, intelligent, intriguing police procedural narratives on television, eschewing cliffhangers and easy answers while embracing slow pacing, character development, and escalating tension. Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) is a compelling character, a far-from-perfect father chased by his childhood demons. The directing, the acting, and the writing all hold attention and merit high ratings. Even the cinematography deserves praise. Unlike many other mystery shows – think Foyle’s War or Sherlock – Bosch does not fall apart with hokiness when it comes time for a shootout or car chase. »
