Wilson Bethel cast in Marvel’s Daredevil season 3

Marvel has added a new addition to the cast of Daredevil, with Variety reporting that Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) has signed on for a role in the third season of the hit Netflix series.

According to the site, Bethel will play “an FBI agent who will play a critical role in the conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk.”

Although unconfirmed, speculation is suggesting that this could be the character of Stanley Carter, a.k.a. Sin-Eater, who in the comics was a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and NYPD detective who became a dangerous vigilante obsessed with killing those who “sin” by abusing authority.

The Defenders is Netflix’s least-watched Marvel series in its first month

After more than two years of build, Netflix brought its four street-level Marvel heroes together last month as the streaming service assembled Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn JonesIron Fist for The Defenders.

While Marvel and Netflix were surely hoping this would be their small screen version of The Avengers, the miniseries met with a mixed reception from fans and critics, and now comes word that it has failed to live up to the success of its predecessors in terms of viewership.

Unlike TV networks, Netflix doesn’t reveal exact viewing figures for its shows, but according to marketing analytics agency Jumpshot, The Defenders enjoyed just 17% of the viewership of Daredevil season 2 – Netflix’s best-performing Marvel season – in its first 30 days. For comparison, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones managed 28%, 27% and 26% respectively. The stats also show that The Defenders

'The Defenders': Charlie Cox on What's Next For Daredevil

[Warning: this story contains full spoilers for Marvel's The Defenders.]

The Devil of Hell's Kitchen is dead — or so the world thinks.

In the final episode of Marvel's The Defenders, the very first hero featured in Netflix's corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended things in a dire situation: trapped beneath an exploding building, almost certainly consumed in the rubble. The people who know Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) best believe him dead, including Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), as well as the hero's three newest friends: Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter),...

Marvel’s The Defenders Season 1 Episode 2 Review – ‘Mean Right Hook’

Ricky Church reviews the second episode of Marvel’s The Defenders

I said in my review for ‘ The H Word’ that a lot of it was playing catch up with where the heroes were in their lives and setting up how they would be brought together. While they still spent most of ‘Mean Right Hook’ in their individual stories, the final scenes brought some of them together in entertaining ways that also advanced the overall story.

‘Mean Right Hook’ moves at a brisk pace, allowing the episode to focus on the story and the characters. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that this series is only 8 episodes compared to the 13 the other Marvel Netflix series have, cutting out the fat to get right to the good stuff. Each of the character get involved in disparate elements of the mystery, whether they know it or not, from

Marvel’s The Defenders Season 1 Episode 1 Review – ‘The H Word’

Ricky Church reviews the first episode of Marvel’s The Defenders

It’s been a long time coming, but Netflix’s crossover between its four Marvel shows is finally here with The Defenders. The gang is all here, from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and, yes, even Iron Fist, as they join together to save New York. So how does the first episode fare?

‘The H Word’ seems to take inspiration from Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, using the breakout superhero film as a baseboard. Much like the opening act of that film, much of this episode is spent catching up on the various activities of these street level heroes. Throughout the episode we go back and forth between Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as we see what each of them are up to. Even though it largely plays catch up, the premiere moves along at a brisk pace.
