Writers Found for Robert Zemeckis' How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack

7 November 2011 1:57 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The last time there was anything to talk about regarding the Robert Zemeckis live action adaptation of Chuck Sambuchino's How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack was this past April, and now that writers are attached, Zemeckis himself might direct instead of just producing. Read on for details.

According to Deadline Chad Damiani and Jp Lavin have just been hired to adapt the book for Zemeckis and his Imagemovers banner.

The film will be live action (the garden gnomes will be animated) and based on the Chuck Sambuchino novel, which was optioned by Sony Pictures Animation. Zemeckis and his ImageMovers partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey are producing with The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson.

The book is a survival guide, preparing the homeowner on the off chance the lawn ornaments stage a home invasion. The intention is to make an edgy PG-13 version so the gnomes will be scary. »

The Director of 2009's A Christmas Carol is on board to produce the live-action/CG hybrid film based on the comedy novel that prepares garden owners with tips on surviving a murderous gnome attack. Chad Damiani and Jp Lavin have now been brought on board to draft a screenplay for the film, which is being marketed as an R-rated $20-30 million mix live action and CG killer gnomes. Zemeckis is producing alongside his ImageMovers partner Jack Rapke and Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson, as well as Jackie Levine. There’s a new threat in town—and it’s »

Zemeckis To Produce "Charles Fort"

7 October 2011 4:55 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Robert Zemeckis will produce and Evan Spiliotopoulos is set to write the supernatural thriller "Charles Fort" at Universal Pictures says Heat Vision.

Fort was an early 20th century American researcher and writer whose focus was "anomalous phenomena" and the unexplained. He wrote some of the first books on the material and is described as a "curious skeptic who enjoyed collecting data to support explanations" for strange things.

Dark Horse published a 2002 comic mini-series which portrayed Fort as an adventurous investigator tangling with aliens and murderers in turn-of-the-century New York City.

The film marks the first project set up by Imagemovers under their newly minted first-look deal with the studio. Mike Richardson, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey are producing. »

Robert Zemeckis Producing Charles Fort Adaptation

7 October 2011 12:53 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Universal Pictures is teaming up with producer Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos for Charles Fort.

The project will be adapted from the Dark Horse Comics series entitled Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained, a four-issue series created by Peter M. Lenkov, which dealt with the real-life findings of author Charles Fort. His books, such as The Book of the Damned in 1919 and New Lands in 1923 were among the first to explore unexplained phenomena such as levitation, teleportation, and alien abduction. The Dark Horse Comics series turned Fort into a private investigator dealing with supernatural beings in 19th Century New York City.

Robert Zemeckis will produce alongside Dark Horse's Mike Richardson and ImageMovers' Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey. A director has not been attached at this time, but it is possible that Robert Zemeckis may direct this himself. No production schedule was given for Charles Fort.

TSRn: Denzel Washington joins director Robert Zemeckis with ‘Flight’

The Scorecard Review news

News: For the first time, Denzel Washington will work with director Robert Zemeckis on Paramount Pictures film Flight.

Source: Paramount Pictures (full news release below)

Thoughts by Tsr: The bigger news here is Zemeckis will go back to live action films. The last time he did that was with Tom Hanks in Cast Away in 2000. It’s one of my favorites, but that’s a pretty big break. Yes, I know he’s been busy with those animated flicks A Christmas Carol, Beowulf, and The Polar Express.

News Release …

Paramount Pictures announced today that Academy Award ® winner Denzel Washington will star, and Academy Award ® winning director Robert Zemeckis will helm, Flight for the studio. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will produce under the Parkes/MacDonald production banner along with Zemeckis, Steve Starkey, and Jack Rapke under their ImageMovers banner. Robert Zemeckis-Directed, Denzel Washington-Starring ‘Flight’ Is Officially Official

10 September 2011 1:04 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

In a quick update on a film we’ve been hearing about for a few months, Paramount has officially announced Flight, the new film from Robert Zemeckis that will star Denzel Washington. The director signed on to the project a couple of weeks ago, marking his return to live-action after several years.

Written by John Gatins, it’s centered on a pilot named Whip Whitaker, as he struggles with a hero image that he feels he doesn’t deserve. The drama is expected to begin filming this fall in Atlanta, so a 2012 release seems pretty likely. I get the feeling that Paramount will be positioning this for a few awards at the end of next year, with Washington and (possibly) Zemeckis being the main contenders.
